Full-Time Senior Director of Finance

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Director of Finance

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay Range: $130,000 – 150,000 (commensurate with experience)

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

 

Position Summary

Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Director oversees all aspects of financial management. They ensure that USA Triathlon (USAT) has the financial model needed to continue the organization’s short- and long-term success and impact. Overseeing and directing the finance of an $18M nonprofit organization with 55 staff, the Senior Director plays a critical role in ensuring the financial well-being of the organization, including fiscal responsibility, and supporting the achievement of business objectives. The Senior Director is highly collaborative and strategic and has significant experience in non-profit financial management. The right leader has a proven ability to establish a clear and positive culture, provide balanced leadership with accountability.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversee all aspects of financial management, including financial planning and analysis, accounting, budgeting, and treasury functions
  • Build and lead all financial support and team including, but not limited to, directing external outsourced accounting firm, hiring, coaching and leading office-based finance team. Manage all aspects of the annual audit and completion of 990, communicating with the finance committee and managing the relationship with the external audit firm
  • Ensures timely completion and accuracy of all organizational financial reporting, monthly statements, analysis, forecasting and modeling
  • Responsible for developing a dynamic long-term financial proforma to inform strategic decision making
  • Guide the annual budget process and manage it to break-even or better. Oversight of cash flow, banking, treasury investments, growth strategies and reserves
  • Report the organization’s financial position and provide operational updates to the Finance Committee and Board quarterly, and to the CEO and Program Directors monthly
  • Demonstrate tactical and visionary financial leadership with the ability to execute day-to-day activities and details while staying focused on the overall financial health of the organization
  • Consult and support all financial business activities, assisting teams in program analysis, programmatic financial modeling, profit and loss management, and decision making
  • Oversee business administration including, but not limited to, all leases, building and office management, insurance, and any other business administration expenses and functions
  • Work closely with the compliance team, ensuring proper policy development, review, implementation, upholding all state and national requirements
  • Oversee information technology functions, ensuring the IT management for systems, structures, and physical support (i.e. desktop) are up to date and consistently operational

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Mission-driven professional dedicated to the values and vision of non-profit work
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff and functional areas through supportive and motivating means
  • Proven ability to act as a senior partner and advisor by demonstrating outstanding financial analysis, communications, interpretation, and leadership skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key information both verbally and in writing to CEO, Executive Team, Board, and direct reports.
  • Ability to self-direct, listen and ask questions, and establish relationships with staff at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders
  • Resilient in solving unexpected problems as they arise while considering resources, liability, precedence, financial implications, and other possible future impact to the organization.
  • Proficiency in key technical systems including, but not limited to, Office 365, Blackbaud Financial Edge (or similar systems)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field from an accredited institution is required,  Master’s degree or CPA is preferred
  • Minimum of five years financial leadership experience; preferred experience in managing operational and/or administrative departments such as IT
  • Non-profit and fundraising accounting experience preferred
  • Experience with a member-driven organization preferred

Other

  • Based in Colorado Springs, CO. This position is required in the office Tuesday – Thursday and may work remotely on Mondays and Fridays
  • 5 – 10 percent travel as needed for Board meetings and events
