Wespath, recognized as a 2017-2022 Chicago’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For® and a 2018-2022 National Best and Brightest Companies to Work For®, has an opportunity for a Senior Data Architect that acts as a senior member of the Application Delivery and Support (ADS) team within IT and is responsible for the overall design, development, test, release, maintenance, and technical support of data and reporting applications to ensure effective data services delivery and support of enterprise strategies. This person will be key in defining and executing a business intelligence strategy for Wespath. This role is also responsible for working with Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure to ensure server platform and security needs of data and reporting systems are met. In coordination with project teams and ADS management, this role will work with the business in defining project scope, requirements, and timeline for deliverables.
More specifically, as a Senior Data Architect you will have the opportunity to:
- Define and design data architectures required to deliver reporting and analytics solutions
- Ensure architectures are optimized for performance and scalability, are secure, sustainable, and easy to support
- Perform data modelling and database design for Wespath data and reporting applications as needed
- Responsible for the design, development, test, release, maintenance, and technical support of custom data applications and data migration, such as data pipelines, ETL/ELT, data processing, APIs
- Serve as a liaison between non-technical and information technology staff to align research goals and infrastructure requirements
- Analyze and understand business users’ requirements, clarifying inconsistencies, conflicts, or ambiguities, to effectively develop solutions that meet business needs
- Provide technical guidance and innovative thought leadership around Wespath’s solution strategy and approach, including staying up to date with available technology and tools
- Assess existing, establishes, and adhere to best practices, standards and agreed upon design patterns for data and reporting application development and support
- Examine and identify database structural necessities by evaluating current structures, operations, and applications
- Participate in design/code reviews
- Create deployment packages and instructions for releasing data and reporting applications across environments
- Prepare accurate database design and architecture reports for management and executive teams
- Document data and reporting application implementations, configurations, and support requirements as needed
- Monitor system performance by performing regular tests, troubleshooting, and integrating new features
- Evaluate techniques and design patterns and make recommendations that will improve new and existing database systems
- Educate staff members through training and individual support
- Correct reported incidents on data and reporting applications and release fixes through the change control processes
- Work with the DBA to ensure platforms are engineered with consideration of capacity planning, availability, and performance of database systems while optimizing the platform costs
- As necessary administer the reporting environment including managing security, data gateways, and workspaces
- Know or is willing to learn DBA responsibilities to serve as a DBA backup
- Participate in the development and management of governance and frameworks for managing data across the organization
- Conducts proof of concepts to guide technical implementation as needed

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Management Information Systems, or related field
- Eight years of experience in the solution development life cycle for developing and maintaining data processing and reporting applications
- Extensive experience with:
- System analysis and design
- Data transformation development (ETL/ELT) tools (e.g., SSIS, Informatica, DataStage, etc.)
- Reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Domo, Infor Birst, or other similar tools.
- Relational and multi-dimensional data modeling
- Performance tuning and database design for SQL Server
- Building Operational Data Stores, Data Marts, Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, Lake Houses
- Working with non-relational data sources such as flat files, excel files, JSON files, and APIs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in teaching and mentoring developers and/or users
- Experience or familiarity with:
- One or more Cloud Data platforms
- Self-Service Business Intelligence platforms
- Data quality management and master data management
- Enterprise information architecture
