The Challenge​​​​​​​
We are a Senior Assistant Resident Engineer II to join our Nashville Resident Engineering team.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Manage the administration of highway construction contracts and supervise contract construction work.
    • Establish engineering controls for contractors.
    • Inspect construction work.
    • Manage contract administration for all types of construction projects including Central and Division let contracts.
    • Prepare monthly estimates, final estimates, and other record keeping during the life of a contract construction project.
What You Bring
    • Proficiency in plan reading, highway engineering calculations, and familiarity using survey instruments.
    • Knowledge of contract administration to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with NCDOT’s Specifications, Standard Drawings, and Policies.
    • Working knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering, construction methods, materials, and equipment in performance of Contract Administration functions, including estimates, supplemental agreements, claims, correspondence, submittals, monthly construction meetings, and ensuring environmental compliance.
    • Experience supervising teams, including Construction Engineering Inspection staff.
    • Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining engineering concepts to customer groups.
    • Management experience leading multiple projects and directing multiple work crews.
    • Ability to understand, explain, and administer contracts, interpret construction plans, provisions, standards and specifications.
    • Ability to train, coordinate, and supervise staff.
    • Good communications skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, contractors, and the public.
    • Ability to make field engineering decisions.
    • Ability to work effectively in extreme weather and uneven terrain.
    • Driving skills to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Management Prefers
Candidates with:
    • HiCams and SharePoint experience.
    • A driver’s license.
    • Registration as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors.
Notes
    • Night and weekend work may be required.
    • Safety toe footwear is required within 30 days of hire.
    • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
 
Education & Experience
    • Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
    • 3+ years of relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
