Full-Time Senior Assistant Resident Engineer
Job Description
- Manage the administration of highway construction contracts.
- Supervise contract construction work.
- Establish engineering controls for contractors.
- Inspect construction work.
- Manage contract administration for all types of construction projects, including Central and Division let contracts.
- Apply your proficiency in plan reading, highway engineering calculations, and familiarity in the operations of survey instruments.
- Prepare monthly and final estimates.
- Perform other recordkeeping required during the life of contract construction projects.
- Contract administration knowledge to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with NCDOT specifications, standard drawings, and policies.
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering and construction methods, materials, and equipment in performance of Contract Administration functions (estimates, supplemental agreements, claims, correspondence, submittals, monthly construction meetings, and ensuring environmental compliance).
- Supervisory experience overseeing the work of others, including supervising Construction Engineering Inspection staff to meet goals.
- Customer service experience resolving problems involving explaining engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Project management experience leading multiple projects and directing multiple work crews.
- Ability to understand, explain, and administer contracts.
- Ability to interpret construction plans, provisions, standards, and specifications.
- Management skills to train, coordinate, and supervise employees.
- Solid communications skills to communicate, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with co=workers, contractors, and the public.
- Ability to make Field Engineering decisions and perform Contract Administration (estimates, supplemental agreements, claims, correspondences, submittals, monthly construction meetings, ensuring environmental compliance, etc.).
- Ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing duties.
- Safety toe footwear.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- HiCAMS and SharePoint experience is preferred.
- Night and weekend work may be required.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
