Full-Time Senior Assistant District 2 Engineer/Engineer II
Job Description
- Review and oversee complex developments, encroachments, driveway permits, and subdivisions for the district.
- Act as the NCDOT lead by coordinating reviews and be the point person for developers, engineers, and government staff to contact concerning complex driveway permits, encroachments, and small price development such as High Impact Low Cost, Spot Safety, etc.
- Assist our District Engineer with over-dimension permits, addition and abandonment of rights of way, and Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA) reviews.
- Serve as the supervisor in the absence of our District Engineer.
- Attend meetings with developers, engineers, and government agencies on high profile developments throughout the District.
- Represent NCDOT on technical issues and advise parties involved on policies and specifications.
- Provide engineering support for an assistant district engineer and 2-3 technicians.
- Experience reviewing project plans/specifications for compliance with established practices and principles of Engineering (i.e. – Spot Safety, locally-managed projects, subdivisions, right of way encroachments and driveway permit applications).
- Experience in the supervision, direction, management, and training of junior staff and/or contract engineering staff to achieve project delivery metrics.
- Demonstrated ability in planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Excellent written/verbal communications skills to establish and maintain positive working relationships and communicate with developers, engineers, and government entities in technical terms.
- Customer service experience related to resolving problems.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office and GIS software.
- Ability to analyze/solve difficult highway maintenance and construction problems.
- Ability to prepare and review reports.
- You may be required to attend public meetings outside of normal business hours.
- Steel toe shoes are required.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
- 3 years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
