Code for America is looking for a talented Senior Analytics Engineer who will support and maintain data analytics infrastructure and data pipelines to support Data Scientists in their analysis and maintain the data that the organization needs for impact reporting.
As of October 27, 2023, Code for America has reached a CBA (collective bargaining agreement) with Code for America Workers United, affiliated with OPEIU (Office Professional Employees International Union, Local 1010). About the Role:
Code for America’s data scientists use a wide range of statistical and analytical methods to improve user experiences and outcomes across the tax, criminal justice, and safety net services that Code for America delivers. We are looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer who will build, maintain and support the data infrastructure needed to produce these analyses.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analytics, data engineering, and a proven track record of supporting the work of data scientists who provide analysis and research to produce insights and influence outcomes. You will be responsible for developing and managing analytics solutions that contribute to data-driven decision-making and strategy.
To do so, you will work closely with cross-functional teams including data scientists, devops and security, software engineers, and product managers.
The Senior Analytics Engineer will report to a Data Science Manager and there may be up to 10% of travel for this role.
In this Position You Will:
- Create Analytics Pipelines and Workflows:
- Collaborate with Data Scientists, Product Engineers and Product Managers to understand data and analytics requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Create new data pipelines, data transfers, and compliance-oriented infrastructure to facilitate seamless data utilization within cloud environments
- Work with heterogeneous datasets, ensuring data quality, accuracy, and performance
- Implement data transformation, integration, and validation processes to support analytics and reporting needs
- Support and Maintain Analytics Tooling Infrastructure:
- Collaborate with our DevSecOps team to maintain, deploy and monitor data and analytics pipelines
- Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues, collaborating with the team to identify root causes
- Optimize and fine-tune data pipelines for improved speed, reliability, and efficiency
- Other duties as assigned
About You:
- 3 or more years as an analytics engineer or data engineer;
- Fluency in Python, SQL, R;
- Experience with Postgres and cloud-based data warehousing (e.g. BigQuery, Snowflake);
- Experience with data orchestration tools (e.g. Dagster) for building and managing data pipelines;
- Experience using dbt for data transformation and modeling within data warehouses;
- Demonstrated experience with Metabase or similar business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) for creating dashboards and reports for the organization;
- Experience in ensuring that data pipelines are accessible to Data Scientists through notebook tools (e.g. Hex).
It’s a Bonus if You Have:
- Personal experience with the justice system, social safety net, workforce training, or other mission-relevant government services.
- Understanding of basic data science and machine learning concepts to support advanced analytics projects.
- Knowledge of additional business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) for advanced data visualization and reporting.

As part of our equitable hiring practices, we target the 2nd quartile midpoint number of each salary band, for all new hires.
Offer targets vary based on market / geographic location. The target offer numbers for this role range from $111,648 to $136,675, annually.

- Full-time employees work 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday
- Collaborative working hours: we aim to hold all internal meetings between 10 AM – 3 PM PT. We expect all Code for America staff to be available during these set working hours
- Employee Enablement Support:
- Laptop provided
- $700 remote environment setup; $200 stipend and up to $500 reimbursement, in accordance with our equipment policy
- Cell phone and/or internet reimbursement of $50 per month
