Full-Time Senior Advisor for Strategic Partnerships

Job Description:The Senior Advisor for Strategic Partnerships represents Ipas in the UK as a key component of Ipas’s new organizational model and strategic framework. The primary purpose of presence in the UK is for fundraising and advocacy to advance Ipas’s mission to build support for abortion access and rights. The Senior Advisor works to increase Ipas’s technical reach and funding through donor cultivation and strategic partnerships with other organizations. The Senior Advisor will collaborate with the Ipas office in the US to establish Ipas’s formal presence in the UK and will secure new funding from UK government and foundation donors. The Senior Advisor leads our efforts to position Ipas to participate in consortia for competitive bids from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO, formerly DFID) and other major donors and to develop additional funding collaborations with a broad spectrum of partner organizations. The Senior Advisor also builds Ipas’s visibility and represents Ipas in conferences and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and women’s rights networks. The Senior Advisor for Strategic Partnerships reports to the Director of Development in North Carolina, USA.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify and help cultivate relationships with a broad range of organizations to pursue new joint funding opportunities in service of Ipas’s mission
  • Attend SRHR meetings and build Ipas’s visibility as a leader on abortion and contraception
  • Research and cultivate foundation and bilateral UK funding, contacting new prospects and pitching Ipas for unrestricted and project support.
  • Collaborate with Ipas Global Awards Management staff to register Ipas as a UK charity
  • Manage Ipas UK and prepare reports for the Ipas UK Board of Directors
  • Produce an Annual Report on Ipas UK achievements
  • Build our intelligence into key peer organizations’ technical capacities to inform bidding and other funding decisions and strategies at global, regional, and country levels.
  • Sharpen Ipas’s understanding of how funding is allocated within key funding institutions issuing competitive tenders and RFPs and provide strategic guidance on establishing and further strengthening Ipas’s relationships with those institutions.
  • Lead Ipas’s response to RFPs for competitive bids from initial intelligence gathering and pre-solicitation activities through proposal submission, in close collaboration with Development department colleagues.
  • Develop and implement a plan to build Ipas’s capacity in competitive bidding, including strengthening pre-solicitation processes, strategic communications, intelligence-gathering efforts, positioning Ipas for consortia, partnership negotiations, and proposal development approaches.
  • Contribute to Development Team processes, meetings, and special initiatives.Attend Ipas US meetings and staff conversations as necessary.
  • Serve as an external representative of Ipas with partners and donors in collaboration with other staff.
  • As time allows, identify and monitor discussions about SRHR funding in parliament and advocate for SRHR funding that includes safe abortion and contraception.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Requirements

Minimum

  • Master’s Degree with 5-7 years of relevant experience
  • Substantive knowledge of institutional and bilateral donors supporting women’s health and rights and global health
  • Strong knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and rights
  • Demonstrated success with international development competitive bids
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Excellent English writing and editing skills
  • Ability to travel 10%
  • Experience working in a non-profit organization
  • Experience with written and oral presentations
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
