Role Overview

Global Ties U.S. is a fast-paced, highly successful organization seeking the right individual for the pivotal role of Senior Accountant.  The successful candidate will also have outstanding leadership and management capability.  To succeed in this role, an individual must be well-organized, forward thinking, and energetic.

The position is in the Office of Finance and Operations that provides financial and administrative services to the entire organization.  This new position has been created to increase the capacity of the Office.  Reporting to the Senior Director, Finance and Operations, the Senior Accountant performs the full range of professional accounting, recording, reconciling, and reporting of financial data in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, concepts, and practices.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Performs monthly closing.
  • Preparation of audit schedules before and during the annual audits.
  • Preparation of annual budgets.
  • Performs reviews, analysis, reconciliations, and evaluation of general ledger accounts to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information.
  • Responsible for reviewing and updating rules, regulations, policies, systems, and procedures pertinent to financial management within the Office of Finance and Operations or programs assigned.
  • Works independently on continuing assignments or projects that require application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), practices, and theories of professional accounting.
  • Performs special projects and assignments for automated financial systems, daily review of accounting inputs and outputs, and reviews edit master files for any irregularities.
  • Reviews the work of other staff to ensure accuracy and conformity to standing policies and procedures, instructing them, when necessary, on proper methods.
  • Performs special reviews and analyses to ensure the integrity of the general control system and prepares special reports and financial statements relating to programs.
  • Assists program managers in developing accounting/budget data structure and participates in the planning and coordination associated with program closeouts.
  • Applies corresponding GAAP knowledge and skills in the application of corrective procedures when necessary and provides technical guidance to the staff.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A four-year degree in accounting from an AACSB accredited college or university
  • At least three (3) years of experience in accounting, external auditing, or a combination of both.
  • Expert-level skills in Excel, including the creation and manipulation of pivot tables and VLOOKUP.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills, with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with different personality styles and build collaborative working relationships.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s in accounting, finance, or business management from an AACSB-accredited college or university
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or who has passed some part of the CPA licensing exams
  • Experience with General Ledger, month-end closing, reconciliations, and preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Demonstrated leadership or management experience within a small finance team is a plus.
