Summary

The senior accountant’s responsibilities include preparing analysis reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned. A successful senior accountant should have a solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and strong financial analysis skills. An outstanding senior accountant should also possess strong Excel skills, be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to work with little to no supervision and perform under pressure.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and reconciling balance sheet and general ledger accounts in accordance with the close schedule.
  • Verifying, allocating, posting and reconciling accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Maintaining fixed assets, prepaids, intercompany, and other balance sheet schedules.
  • Assisting with annual audit preparations and other bank requirements.
  • Investigating and resolving audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance.
  • Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending.
  • Contributing to the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures.
  • Preparing financial analyses and other ad hoc reports as requested by the Controller or CFO.
  • Analyzing financial information and summarizing financial status.
  • Provide input into department’s goal setting process.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.

 

Qualification/Skills & Knowledge Requirements

  • 5+ years of accounting experience.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and tax laws.
  • Strong financial analysis and reporting skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational and stress management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel.
  • Ability to work with little to no supervision.
  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant experience.
