Major Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Security Systems Supervisor, the Security System Technician will provide overall security services to City owned and/or operated properties through the maintenance of various security systems and respond to routine and emergency security system failures while maintaining the utmost confidentiality at all times.
Duties include:
- Implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.
- Conducts research into assigned area ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.
- Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
- Performs installations of access control systems, CCTV, intrusion systems and intercom systems.
- Controls how and when staff move throughout City facilities by accessing the control programming interface.
- Investigates and diagnoses corrective and preventative maintenance work by accessing the City’s incident reporting application.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, schematics and specifications.
- Creates schematic drawings for new security installs.
- Performs corrective maintenance on access control and CCTV systems as directed.
- Mounts panels, field devices and power supplies as required.
- Performs yearly preventative maintenance checks all access control system and CCTV components.
- Creates maintenance reports and suggestions for corrective measures.
- Performs system testing as required.
- Conducts electronic physical security audits of premises and systems, identifies and quantifies shortcomings and makes recommendations.
- Promotes services provided by the Unit throughout the corporation that contribute positively to the results of the Unit, Division and Corporate vision.
- Maintains up to date knowledge of various security system products.
- Assists in developing employee training programs for employees and end users.
- Travels to various locations throughout the City of Toronto.
Key Qualifications:
- Considerable experience performing security system installations and corrective maintenance within the Electronic Security System industry.
- Considerable experience with modern building security systems, and their functions for large and small building complexes.
- Considerable experiencing installing, programing and troubleshooting large scale IP based access control and CCTV systems such as C-Cure, Milestone, DSC, Commend, etc.
- Education, training and/or certification in a discipline pertinent to the job function, or the equivalent combination of education and industry related experience.
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License and qualify to obtain and maintain a City Driver’s Permit.
You must also have:
- Strong working knowledge of computer networking, including IP Addresses, Subnets, Multicast audio/video, etc.
- Working knowledge of electronic test equipment such as AC/DC digital multimeters, AC line tester/monitors, AF generators, battery testers, event recorders, and ground-loop recorders.
- Ability to operate and maintain computerized state of the art security equipment.
- Ability to prepare and maintain clear, concise, and legible work order reports, detailed records and correspondence using a computer and a variety of software applications including Microsoft Office Suite, mainframe systems, databases, etc.
- Ability to follow security standards, work plans, and policies and procedures.
- Highly developed interpersonal and customer service skills, including problem solving, decision making and communication skills with the ability to respond to staff and the public in a courteous and effective manner.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and to set priorities, plan and execute tasks, meet designated deadlines, often within time restraints and exercise discretion.
- Ability to report to various work sites to carry out security systems related duties.
- Comprehensive knowledge of common security policies and various related Acts, Codes, and legislation including the Fire Code, Human Rights Code, WHMIS, etc. that apply to this work.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying the Occupational Health & Safety Act, including confined space entry, ladder safety and other safety procedures and regulations applicable to the above work.
- Familiar with City of Toronto, including location of streets, property locations, etc.
- Ability to maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
- Must be physically capable of performing the required duties in all weather conditions including the ability to lift, work at heights, in confined spaces and the ability to climb ladders, lifts and/or scaffolding.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to provide and pass a Criminal Record Check with Judicial Matters to the satisfaction of Corporate Security.
