Job Description

Ocean Associates Inc. (OAI) seeks a full-time Seasonal/Annual Training Expert to support National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) in Silver Spring, MD. CO-OPS is the authoritative source for accurate, reliable, and timely tides, water levels, currents, and other coastal oceanographic and meteorological information. Key Responsibilities:

Provide support for stakeholder engagement, outreach, and/or technical assistance regarding products and services, including curriculum development and training materials, for products and services related to flooding and inundation. Specific task requirements may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducts needs assessments and analyses to determine adult learning objectives for products and services related to flooding and inundation.
  • Supports development and design of training materials and courses (including virtual learning) with lesson plans for products and services related to flooding and inundation.
  • Identifies service learning opportunities around products and services related to flooding and inundation.
  • Designs and facilitates delivery of in-person and virtual learning programs.
  • Conducts training and assesses progress of participants in meeting desired objectives.
  • Prepares and maintains training records and progress reports.
  • Determines if CEU credits can apply to training and determines pathway for certification.
  • Maintains knowledge of blended learning, training facilitation, design, and evaluation approaches, trends, and research.
  • Serves as a liaison between external partners and CO-OPS subject-matter experts for technical assistance and training regarding flooding and inundation products and tools.
  • Responds to users’ data and product requests, and provides outreach and technical assistance for CO-OPS products and services.
  • Coordinates with existing internal efforts on customer engagement and technical assistance.

Start Date: August 15, 2023

Salary: This is a full-time position. Wage range is $35.62 to $40.62 per hour. Overtime is not anticipated. Comprehensive benefits package.

Required Skills /Education/ Certifications & Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in communications and/or adult learning with knowledge or experience in oceanography, geodesy, or marine science with four years’ experience. No additional years’ experience required if doctorate in aforementioned fields. Candidates with a graduate degree in social science or education and demonstrated knowledge of coastal science may also be qualified to perform this task.
  • Must have had coursework or professional experience in communications, curriculum design, and outreach.
  • Requires demonstrated skill in communicating, both orally and in writing, complex scientific principles to non-scientific audiences.
  • Requires superior interpersonal and networking skills, particularly with respect to engaging stakeholders and building professional networks. Experience with surveys, focus groups, and other social science methods is preferred.
  • Requires a demonstrated ability to organize and self-manage workload, collaborate well with others, and meet deadlines.
  • Must be proficient in using the Microsoft Windows operating system, Microsoft Office applications, and Google’s Collaboration Suite (e.g., Docs, Sheets, and Slides) for analyzing data and developing and editing documents and presentations.

Preferred:

  • Ability to occasionally work on-site in Silver Spring, MD
