About Us
Riverside Park Conservancy is looking for an entry-level seasonal park maintenance technician to join our dynamic team. The park contains numerous gardens, woodlands, scenic promenades, ballfields, cafes, and access to six miles of the Hudson River waterfront. This technician will work with our gardeners and volunteers in both horticultural and conservation areas. This position reports to a park supervisor.
The Riverside Park Conservancy works in partnership with the City of New York to maintain and improve Riverside Park for the enjoyment and benefit of all New Yorkers
Major Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assist zone gardeners with maintaining and advancing the condition of gardens, turf areas, and woodland areas.
- Clear leaves and trash from gardens and paths.
- Report safety hazards.
- Grade, rake, and replenish park surfaces as needed. Assist with erosion control.
- Pull weeds and remove invasive plant material.
- Prune small trees and shrubs.
- Mulch garden beds.
- Collect and remove trash and debris; sweep paths and stairs; install and maintain temporary fencing; remove snow and ice; operate and properly maintain tools and equipment.
- Perform other assigned duties as required.
Rate of pay: $20 per hour. This is a 6-month seasonal position.
Qualifications
- One year of experience in horticulture, sports field/ golf course maintenance or other hands on environmental/parks focused work.
- Must have a valid NYS driver’s license and ability to work a 7:00 am to 3:30 pm work day. Flexibility to work during weekends and infrequently evenings for special events.
- Some plant identification ability is preferred.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds and work and maneuver outdoors (in all weather conditions) on the 400-acre property’s often difficult terrains.
