We have two opportunities for an innovative and driven Senior Project Manager to work as part of the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) in Dreadnaught and SSN(R) programmes. This is an exciting role to lead, manage and be part of a team who has a strong reputation for project delivery within their industry. You will be involved with managing highly complex projects and/or diverse portfolios which address unpredictable and often complex issues or situations without precedent. One of PM roles seeks a strong project controls and project support / project management office experience.
Due to the nature of the post, this role is only available for SOLE UK Nationals.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Project Manager, your main responsibilities will include:
• Accountable for establishing, leading and managing high performing multi-disciplinary teams and setting strategic direction across all Functions to deliver agreed outcomes.
• Champion project management, its processes and tools.
• Accountable for championing an open, honest, no blame culture. Actively discussing failures and shortfalls positively, enacting mitigations and engaging with Project Management Function to mitigate wider occurrence.
• Accountable for the delivery of their projects within the performance/cost/time envelope for a portfolio or highly complex project.
• Accountable for ensuring the most cost-effective and efficient means of delivery, whilst mitigating risk and leveraging opportunities.
• Champion learning from experience (LFE) across their portfolios/project to support the development of governance and standard practice. Ensure appropriate challenge to status quo and gain approval to deviate when necessary.
• Establish and agree with the Customer the objective, requirements and the means of acceptance in line with the MoD’s Operating Model and Defence Lines of Development.
• Drive the timely establishment of contracts with Commercial Officers to enable the required contractual contribution from industry. Deliver project requirements, sustain and leverage value through the monitoring and management of contract performance against commitments (product and services) and meet our own obligations under the contract.
• Accountable for meeting budgets within all In-Year and longer-term accounting periods. Operate within delegated limits and set delegation limits for their team, ensuring appropriate formal delegation where required.
• Accountable for ensuring that the wider financial (and resource) profiles are adhered to.
• Lead the construction (through the Project Controls Function) of the Performance Measurement Baseline for the project/portfolio.
• Champion career management and proactively support the wider development of the PM community.
External candidates may be entitled to up to £8,000 of First Appointment Expenses (FAE) depending on the outcome of an eligibility check by Defence Business Services (DBS). Internal Civil Service candidates may be entitled to full relocation expenses.
What you will be assessed against
To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:
• Significant experience of leading and managing a project management team delivering a highly complex project or portfolio of projects
It would benefit your application if you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• Any of the following: MAPM ChPP or RPP, relevant Post-Graduate qualification i.e. MSc (Project Management), MPLA or PLP
In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competencies and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
