Full-Time SDA Engineering Programme Manager

Job description

We have four key engineering positions available within the Trident Systems Project Team (TSPT) to work on arguably some of the most high profile projects in the UK.
The TSPT are responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of through life support of the Trident Strategic Weapon System (SWS) and Strategic Weapons Support System (SWSS), including the procurement for the Dreadnought build programme, in support of the Continuous At Sea Deterrent (CASD).

You will be part of extremely capable teams enabling the delivery of specialist technical support requirements for the Strategic Weapon System on board submarines and associated shore support facilities.

Providing in-service engineering support for the Trident Missile/Guidance Sub-system of the Strategic Weapon System and Deep Main Project activities these roles will provide opportunities to develop your knowledge and experience in a collaborative programme and engineering management of one of the most significant and high profile capabilities in Defence.

As these are complex and multifaceted posts in a highly sensitive area, these roles are Reserved (Sole UK Nationals only), DV (Developed Vetting) and Sensitive. Applicants will start the post once they have undergone their DV security clearance.

Responsibilities

These roles will involve regular liaison with multiple stakeholders where you will demonstrate your talent for communicating, influencing and working with others building strong, productive working relationships with the US Government and UK industry partners.

You will utilise your sound engineering judgement to manage key equipment within the Strategic Weapon Enterprise, responsible for the development and maintenance of weapon system requirements including in-service support.

You will participate in defect analysis, design change management, and weapon system test, commissioning and analysis activities.

You will determine quality management and assurance approaches and ensure technical risks are understood and managed.

It will be your responsibility to ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with the appropriate safety standards and that any safety or environmental impacts are kept As Low As is Reasonably Practical (ALARP).

What you will be assessed against

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
• Level 4 qualification (or higher) in a relevant engineering or science subject e.g. Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering
• Experience working with complex weapons systems, either in-service management or development
• Experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful engineering outcomes.
• Strong demonstrable verbal and written skills.

It would benefit your application should be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• Professional registration with a relevant engineering institute
• Submarine experience
• Experience of the integration, delivery and support of a complex weapon system
• Safety management experience
