The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in service support and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Our work is of unparalleled strategic importance nationally and internationally, ensuring the security of the UK’s continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent, and delivering the most technically complex programmes in Defence. Job description
The SDA are looking for a motivated Engineer to join them working in the In Service Submarines Platform Chief Engineers team as part of the electrical Design Authority.
The Design Authority (DA) contribute to maintaining safe systems across all In-service platforms through the design change process. The DA Electrical team assess all design changes against a series of electrical requirements including software. This role is required to assess all design changes wth software against the electrical DAs software safety requirements in order to ensure the changes will not impact on the safety of the platforms.
The focus of this role will be for our DA Software engineer to use their knowledge and engineering background to understand and highlight where and how software may be affected when engineering design changes occur. You will then liaise with the appropriate stakeholders to discuss or escalate any potential issues.
This position offers the chance to join a dynamic team, with the opportunity to gain additional exposure to other departments, building your broader knowledge, as well as the chance to work with a tangible product, via regular access visits to the submarines for context.
Our successful DA software engineer will not require an in depth knowledge of Submarines, but this knowledge and experience would be desirable.
You will have a strong engineering background either as an apprentice or in a systems engineer post, as well as Systems software experience, ideally with safety software.
Please note, due to the projects involved, this role is only open to Sole UK Nationals.
Responsibilities
Managing design changes, with escalation to appropriate teams as needed.
Working to manage processes that have been created from the baseline, ensuring that they remain fit for purpose.
Determine quality management and assurance approaches and ensure technical risks are understood and managed.
Participation in identification, selection, evaluation, performance verification and demonstrations within your technical area.
What you will be assessed against
• L4 Engineering Qualification or Equivalent engineering experience
• Experience with Software assurance
• Demonstrable experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful engineering outcomes.
It would benefit your application should be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• Experience with JSP Policies
• Experience in the Submarine industry.
