The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in service support and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Job description
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Nuclear Propulsion (NP) Finance team at Rolls- Royce Submarines (RRS) in Raynesway. In this role you will be the key liaison between NP Finance and the RRS Business Analysis team requiring you to demonstrate excellent communication skills and to develop strong working relationships with MOD industry partners.
You will provide critical oversight and analysis of the Joint Cost Model (JCM) process, be responsible for oversight of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) at RRS Raynesway (and other sites), involving duties such as GFE/asset audit and spot checks. You will be a member of the Futures Cost Modelling Working Group performing ad-hoc finance and cost modelling related requests.
The core NP Finance team consists of 11 individuals and with the exception of this role are based at MOD Abbey Wood.
Responsibilities
To be able to communicate complex financial performance data in a simple and understandable form to key member of the project, programme and DE&S leadership. In this role you will need to possess good interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills with experience of working collaboratively with 3rd parties within previous roles.
• Work with Project Manager /Scheduler/Project Controls Manager to implement Cost Loaded Schedules to drive forecasting. Guide the production of Earned Valued Management (EVM) analysis to demonstrate project performance and analyse variances to plan, determine impact on the schedule and cost to complete the scope of work. Ensure consistency with In-Year Monitoring (IYM) and EVM reporting.
• Work collaboratively with Finance Business Partner (FBP) providing timely financial information for relevant Business Cases. Provide prompt evaluation of proposals, returning feedback to the PM and monitoring project cost spend against approval.
• Work with Estimators to develop cost models and assist in the production of Investment Appraisals. Monitor project expenditure against approval and liaise with F&A colleagues to ensure that VAT and FOREX costs receive the correct financial treatment.
• Work with Project Delivery Teams helping to manage and report financial forecasting, including financial risk, providing accurate and insightful commentary, challenge and variance analysis.
• Help provide Financial inputs to the Annual Budget Cycle process in conjunction with Project Manager/ Project Controls Manager and support with the production of the PCR forecast and the provision of 1* Screening Packs. Ensure accurate supporting data and resulting actions are reflected in the forecast reports.
• To challenge and interpret complex supply chains cost data to support accruals for multiple contract and project forecasting.
• Helping the NP Finance team to actively support audit and internal compliance, ensuring accruals, journals and option proposals have robust supporting evidence. Ensure efficiencies captured are promptly and adequately supported by auditable evidence

What you will be assessed against
To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
• Experience of provision of financial and funding forecasts.
• Experience of financial and performance reporting.
• Experience of financial risk management and investment decisions.
• Exposure and understanding of probabilistic cost modelling.
• Evidence of working in collaboration with various stake holders.
It would benefit your application should you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• Desirable to hold a formal accountancy qualification (such as CCAB, CIMA, or AAT).
• Experience of VAT and FOREX.
• Knowledge of the Submarine Business would benefit a successful candidate, but is not essential.
• Defence-related experience.
