Full-Time Sanitation Manager

Position Summary:  Leads the development and oversees implementation of food protection policies and programs including the Sanitation Preventive Controls Food Safety Plan required to comply with the Code of Federal Regulations. This position will be responsible for Operational and Sanitation programs. Provides technical expertise to the organization in sanitation and operations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action. Leads the Food Protection Team and Operations teams enabling effective execution of sanitation and operations programs at the manufacturing and warehouse sites. Defines key performance indicators (KPIs), monitors progress, trains/mentors/coaches and provides guidance to all plant / warehouse personnel. Provides the teaching, understanding, and support in regards to sanitation, pest control and infrastructure and equipment hygienic design challenges. This position requires he or she uses resources efficiently, communicate and coordinate with other departments effectively on time-sensitive projects.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Food Protection:
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, documentation, training and on-going improvement of the sanitation program in support of the plant’s Third Party SQF certification.
  • Develops, schedules, updates, reviews and performs self-audit based on Master Sanitation Schedules for the plants including the warehouses.
  • Develop, organize and training programs for plant personnel on Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOP’s) and food safety polices.
  • Performs annual review of all equipment cleaning SSOP’s.
  • Reviews Pre-operational inspection records, implements corrective actions / preventive actions (CAPA) and database for cleaning deficiencies, environmental corrective actions and on-demand response actions.
  • Must be able to maintain and trouble shoot cleaning equipment such as foamers, chemical dispensers, etc.
  • Develops and implements new methods, procedures, and systems to improve sanitation performance.
  • Ensures all equipment is maintained to established sanitary standards.
  • Work with engineering and production departments in the required preventative maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Works with FSQA team to troubleshoot, inspect and correct all sanitation concerns.
  • Ensure all Sanitation records are completed, reviewed and sign off (chemical titrations, CIP and COP validations, pre-operational inspections, etc.) promptly.
  • Lead, teach and motivate all plant employees in pursuit of sanitation excellence.
  • Conduct routine sanitation and pest control assessment.
  • Maintains inventory of cleaning chemicals and cleaning suppliers, ensures proper concentrations and supplies are available.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
  • Schedule and maintain adequate staffing to ensure sanitation operations are complete on a timely basis.
  • Promote to ensure all employees follow company and OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Communicate with other departments and management on sanitation concerns and actively make recommendation and for changes in equipment, plant layout, or work practices to improve sanitation standards.
  • Plan cleaning schedule and proper allocation of resources.
  • Use initiative to find and correct non-compliant sanitation issues.
  • Support R&D, Operations, and Engineering to ensure new processes and equipment installations are designed to provide proper sanitation and prevent compromises to food safety.
  • Leverage sanitation vendors and other internal and external expertise to implement effective sanitation programs, including but not limited to, design and testing of new/improved sanitation methods, best practice sharing between plants, and identification of operational savings opportunities.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Work weekends and holidays as required.
  • Work with supervisors, engineering and maintenance to ensure equipment is being cleaned properly and maintained.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance to ensure that equipment is being torn down on schedule and following the Master Sanitation Schedule.
  • Work closely with cross-functional Directors to align organizational goals and initiatives.
Skills and Technical Expertise:
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
  • Strong leadership and demonstrated superior communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Enjoys a hands-on work environment
  • Working knowledge of sanitation equipment, methods and chemicals
  • Must have a sense of urgency and drive for continuous improvement
  • Able to develop work instructions and documentations
  • Must have the ability to effectively train personnel
  • Excellent trouble shooting skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Experience with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Power-point, Outlook
Preferred Experience
  • 5+ years of responsibility in Quality Assurance, Food Safety, and Supervisory roles
  • HACCP, SSOP and Food Safety training background
  • Experience with FDA and USDA facilities desired
  • Working knowledge of sanitation and cleaning systems, micro bacteria background a plus
