Job Description

Looking for a meaningful summer job?

Able Sail Toronto is a charity that uses specially crafted Martin16 sailboats to enable people with disabilities to sail. We see sailing as a tool to allow people experiencing disability to re-engage in their communities and gain control and autonomy over their actions. Active, outdoor recreation provides a multitude of physical and mental health benefits and we work to ensure people with disabilities have low barrier access to sailing. And the sailors want to learn to race.

About the Job

The successful candidates will work out of National Yacht Club in Toronto using our 2019 Highfield Club 460 coach-boat. Individuals will be responsible for coaching sailors on the water, companion sailing, scheduling of daily activities, and coordinating volunteer supports. Staff will safely transfer members in and out of sailboats and ensure their safety on the water. They will operate various assistive, transfer and mobility devices. They will be responsible for orienting new members, volunteers and visitors. Individuals will maintain equipment and run day to day operations of the program.

This is an opportunity to work closely with the Director of the organization and other leadership to develop problem-solving, decision making and collaboration skills. The position will offer opportunities for one-to-one mentoring, health and safety training, and career counselling. We provide a judgement free environment within an anti-oppressive framework.

Accessibility

We are an equal opportunity employer. We welcome and encourage applications from people with disabilities.
