Full-Time Roadside Assistance Patrol – IMAP Responder – 2 Openings
Job Description
- Operate one of our IMAP vehicles.
- Go out on traffic control deployments.
- Conduct route surveillance and incident response.
- Coordinate the removal of disabled and abandoned vehicles.
- Help manage traffic incident/congestion.
- Perform routine motorist assistance duties and debris removal to help traffic flow and congestion.
- Communicate via two-way radio with our dispatchers and other first responder agencies for appropriate coordination as needed.
- Be a lead worker and deliver on-the-job training.
- Ability to operate and maintain an IMAP truck.
- Ability to work independently, think critically, prioritize, take control of sometimes stressful situations, and make decisions quickly under extreme pressure or in a hazardous environment.
- Ability to perform routine tasks, move or lift heavy objects, work in a variety of weather conditions including rain, snow, heat, and ice.
- Computer skills to use all required computer applications including Computer-Aided Dispatch, online databases for timesheets, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word), and other laptop applications (e.g., incident reports, logs).
- Ability to work outside normal shift hours during larger, after-hours incidents or those extending beyond normal working hours.
- Driving skills to maneuver IMAP vehicle in all weather and traffic conditions while communicating with other units and response partners.
- Agility to respond and move quickly unassisted around fast-moving vehicles.
- Strength to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Agility to walk long distance multiples times throughout the day.
- Skills to change a tire without assistance.
- Working knowledge of fire safety (including the ability to operate a fire extinguisher).
- Experience performing minor mechanical repairs.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a utility truck with winch, and traffic control devices.
- Knowledge of two-way radio systems and phone communications.
- Knowledge of the dynamics of traffic control implementation based on roadway features, highway geometry, and weather conditions.
- A neat, well-groomed appearance while on duty. (Attention to personal hygiene is required when in uniform. These procedures, regulations, and policies promote our professional image, encourage good health for consistently optimum job performance, and increase public confidence.)
- Safety toe shoes.
- Bonus points for experience in areas that is documented on your application: a) emergency response; b) medical services; c) protective services in law enforcement/fire/inspection/arson/correctional/security; d) highway/bridge maintenance or construction; e) driving motor vehicles for business/government; f) automotive/maintenance, towing industry, and/or repair.
- You will need to complete our IMAP Driver Training program that includes on-the-job training.
- A Driver’s License is preferred.
- High school/GED diploma, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
