Full-Time Resident Engineering Supervisor – NEW HIGHER SALARY!
Job Description
- Manage the administration of all types of highway construction projects including Central and Division let contracts.
- Supervise contract construction work, establishment of contractor engineering controls, and inspection of the construction projects.
- Manage the fiscal and staffing areas for the unit and all assigned projects.
- Work with other NCDOT teams, the public, and local government officials to provide maintenance and construction information, coordination, and service delivery.
- Supervise 2 Assistant Resident Engineers, and an Administrative Specialist.
- Serve as the indirect supervisor of 8 Engineering Technician positions and 11 Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) Inspectors.
- Ability to apply safety philosophy to all operations.
- Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including night work, heights, highway traffic and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate in a clear, concise, organized, and persuasive manner.
- Ability to supervise activities of junior employees and instruct them in proper work methods of highway and bridge construction.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel).
- Contract administration expertise to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with NCDOT’s Specifications, Standard Drawings, and Policies.
- Engineering analysis experience working on complex contract administration issues, and the timely approval/denial of these issues through Supplemental Agreements and Claims.
- Management experience supervising employees including Construction Engineering Inspection staff to meet Department goals.
- Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Experience managing multiple projects and directing multiple work crews.
- Experience supervising permanent employees, contractors, and/or consultants.
- Knowledge of HiCams and SharePoint/Plus.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer by NC Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors.
- A Commercial Driver’s License.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- Safety shoes are required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, and
- 4+ years of relevant experience, and
- 2+ years of supervisory experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
