An opportunity awaits you to join the WSU post-award team, who is responsible for supporting academic researchers & public service centers through the management of the University’s sponsored research accounting activities. You will be responsible for grants accounting activities from beginning to end. This is the position for a diligent person, eager to learn all of the rules & regulations related to various sponsored programs, but who also understands that it takes time to learn all the ins and outs of the role. This team works closely with financial services, and is primarily responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state an private industry sponsors (including the Uniform Guidance in 2 CFR Part 200). Summary of Responsibilities
Performs post award grant activities to ensure federal. state and industry compliance with all award and/or contract requirements by monitoring detailed budgets, analyzing expenditures for allowability and applicability, and providing financial and/or accounting support to the Principal Investigator.
Essential Functions
- Analyzes, reviews and approves detailed expenditure transactions for payment within the grant award criteria.
- Ensures compliance with payroll and cost share commitments through research, reconciliation and review of financial data compared to University policies and contract agreements.
- Establishes grant awards within the University financial system, including but not limited to, parameters for industry defense contract allocations, cost share funds, billing dates, and revenue recognition.
- Prepares reports for Principal Investigators show life-to-date spend on the grant, remaining funds available, cost share commitments, etc.
- Prepares all financial reports as required by the granting agency.
- Provides training to departmental staff as required.
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or related field by hire date
Minimum Experience
Three (3) years of experience in accounting, finance, compliance, or related field. Every 15 hours of graduate college coursework beyond a bachelor’s degree can be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prepare timely and accurate financial reports, including a demonstrated commitment to self-review.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to coordinate, prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Range beginning $57,000/yr, commensurate with experience
