Full-Time Research Budget and Finance Director
Job Description
JOB SUMMARY: | The person in this position will be a trusted leader in multiple areas: As a business leader they will implement and monitor the use of approved policies and procedures, audit programs and center budget, and approve unit expenditures. As a talent leader they will lead a team of accountants, procurement, and financial specialists to interpret policy, implement business processes, and support the financial health of sponsored projects, and address challenges within an education research environment. As a strategic leader they will support the planning, implementation, and management of strategic initiatives for the center’s financial functions such as budget preparation, financial reporting, assisting in creating a mixed portfolio for projects, business consulting, contracts negotiation, and procurement support. This position will report to WCER’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). The successful candidate will have a continuous improvement mindset; will be committed to fostering an environment of diversity, equity and inclusion in WCER; and must possess the ability to effectively interact and communicate strategically with employees, principal investigators, and administrative leadership. The position requires excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills, and the ability to work under pressure to meet multiple demands while maintaining high service standards. All work is done in a collaborative team environment in support of WCER’s values and strategic goals. |

RESPONSIBILITIES: | Leads and directs the operations of a research administration functional area by establishing strategic priorities, interpreting policies, and reviewing business processes related to life cycle award management (proposal preparation through closeout).

EDUCATION: | Required Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, or related field. Preferred |
QUALIFICATIONS: | Experience – Minimum of five (5) years of experience in financial leadership with experience, preferably working at a higher education institution. Demonstrated history of and/or commitment to promoting social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in procedures, processes and workplace culture. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required |

WORK TYPE: | Full Time: 100% Currently, employees at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) work in a hybrid environment, partially onsite and partially remote. The balance of face-to-face and remote work schedule for this position will be discussed at the time of hire. This role has more face-to-face responsibilities than remote ones. |
