Salary

$50,000-$65,000 Commensurate with education and experience

Position Description:

The data manager/analyst supports research projects that use newly created consumer credit panel datasets and other large administrative datasets to inform individual and household financial well-being. The manager/analyst works with faculty and research assistants across various colleges and departments at OSU, including the John Glenn College of Public Affairs and the College of Arts and Sciences departments of Sociology and Economics, as well as external collaborators outside of OSU. Responsibilities include: performs data management, coding, and analysis of large panel datasets containing administrative data on individual consumers in a secure computing environment (e.g., the Ohio Super Computer Center);  writes programs using STATA statistical software and other programming languages; creates and maintains data documentation, codebooks, and research project manuals; develops and maintains expertise in consumer credit panel data from industry best practices and scholarly literature; assists in contract management and communications with administrative data partners; provides training and support to student research assistants and faculty who work with the credit panel data; collaborates with researchers to implement aims of research studies and identify appropriate statistical analysis plans; assists in preparation of journal articles, technical reports and grant submissions.

Essential Duties

60%: Data analysis, coding, and documentation; conducts analysis under the direction of faculty research team members; maintains clean and easy to follow do files and data documentation; creates and updates data project manuals for research projects; participates in research team meetings to share results of data cleaning and analysis

 

20%: Assists with preparation of reports and presentations for funders, journal articles, and grant submissions; produces tables and data visualizations; assists with the submission and review of protocols to the Institutional Review Board (IRB)

10%: Assists in contract management with administrative data providers; Identifies best practices for credit data analysis and provides training and support to students and faculty; participates in meetings with research team and credit data provider to ensure data is used appropriately; consults credit data provider codebooks to ensure coding is in line with construct definitions; stays abreast of industry and scholarly publications using other similar credit panel datasets to identify best practices; attends webinars and conferences as applicable to developing expertise in the use of credit panel data

10%: Performs other duties as assigned to support team members

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in statistics, data science, public policy, economics, sociology, or a related field required. Must be proficient with statistical software, including STATA. At least two years of experience analyzing large panel administrative data sources for research purposes is required. Strong written communications skills and ability to work in a collaborative research environment required.

Desired Qualifications

Doctoral degree preferred. Experience preparing grant applications and writing research papers preferred. Experience working with consumer credit panel data or administrative wage and unemployment claims data desired.
