Job Description

Job Summary

The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN), Department of Health Behavior and Biological Sciences seeks a Research Associate who will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in the implementation of research project goals. The Project focuses on developing and testing a new HIV prevention intervention for youth in the Southeast Michigan area. The project is a large randomized control trial of a counseling based intervention for high risk youth. Candidates for the position must have experience working in HIV – either through HIV counseling and testing, or through HIV-focused research or study. Candidates must be comfortable and able to work in a diverse group and with sexual and gender minority research participants. Key tasks of the job include providing HIV testing, using social media to recruit participants, tracking participant participation in the trial through a data management system, managing data and assisting in preparing reports.

This is a term-limited position due to salary funded on a grant.

Responsibilities

Participate in the implementation of a large research project.
Recruit participants through social networking, consent participants into the research study and continue recruitment and retention of research subjects over the course of the study; assist with online recruitment of participants.
Coordinate the collection, cleaning and management of data.
Provide HIV testing and counseling to participants.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Supervision is received from the Principal Investigator (PI).

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a health related field (social work, nursing, public health) required; Master’s degree in Public Health is preferred.
A minimum of two (2) year’s work experience in a research or related technical field is required.
Previous experience providing CTR/HIV counseling and testing.
Candidate should have experience working with the LGBT community.
Knowledge and experience of active linkage to care strategies.
Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
Excellent computer skills, including expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Additional Information

Shift/Hours/Days: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; may include some occasional weekend and/or evening hours.

Salary Range: Due to the necessary requirements, the salary range for this position is $32,000-$40,000. Salary is commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
