Role Description
This new and unique role will be responsible for development, implementation, and oversight of the international logistics compliance activities for the Veterinary Research and Development organization. This colleague will also be responsible for the tariff classification of items in the research and development portfolio. While this role is based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, you will have accountability to ensure domestic and international trade compliance requirements are met at all research and development sites.
The successful candidate will be responsible for building, implementing, and maintaining:
- Training expectations and opportunities for colleagues involved in material logistics compliance work in Research and Development.
- Training programs for partner groups in Research and Development
- Documentation and records management of research and development logistics compliance activities
- Partnerships with Research and Development colleagues to streamline processes that apply to material logistics and trade compliance such as material valuation and external partner relations.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Possess or earn Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) Certification and then execute tariff classification of research and development materials (up to 25% of time).
- Ensure HTS classification files and audit trails are maintained.
- Comply with customs regulations governing import and export of our products and controlled technologies.
- Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of new and amended compliance policies, procedures, and programs specific to research and development as needed.
- Work in team settings and communicate across organizational lines.
- Understand and/or learn animal health industry components and how they are regulated through global compliance regulations.
- Stay informed on the latest regulatory changes and assist in updating practices accordingly.
- Maintain strategies for valuation of materials within Research and Development in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain electronic solutions – with partner groups – for maintaining research and development logistics compliance information.
Qualifications
- Life Sciences degree, ideally in chemistry, with 0-2 years’ experience (Ph.D.), or 15 years’ experience (BS/MS).
- Desired experience includes 2-3+ years of regulatory trade compliance experience supporting exports and imports. Ideally in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from partner groups.
- Strong computer skills with desired experience with Stardrop, ChemDraw, and electronic notebooks.
- Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented and proactive in management of time and tasks.
- Strong skills in establishing a training program related to trade compliance, project management, and negotiation skills for the purposes of delivering shared goals.
- Effective communicator. Present information in a way to know that it’s been and understood.
- Customer obsessed. Proactive interactions with customers. Communicate constraints and potential challenges.
- Potential for a limited amount of travel as needed.
