Position Overview

United States of Care (US of Care) is seeking a Research and Community Engagement Manager to provide support for US of Care’s goal of championing authentic listening and public engagement to drive long-term change and center US of Care’s priority policies and campaigns around the true needs of people. The Research and Community Engagement Manager will work independently,  in consultation with the Director of Research and Community Engagement, to build relationships with community organizations and individuals and host both virtual and in person listening sessions and focus groups in multiple geographies to further USofCare’s research agenda. The Research and Community Engagement Manager will also conduct literature searches on key issues among various populations considered for focus groups and listening sessions, assist in the writing and dissemination of products related to research findings and assist in the development of data collection instruments.

The ideal candidate for the Research and Community Engagement Manager position is a self-starter who is adept at understanding the importance and necessity of community engagement in the research process. They understand and nurture community partnerships with a goal of organizing and facilitating listening sessions and focus groups to bring the people’s voice to the center of USofCare’s work. The person serving in this role must have a diverse and people oriented mindset with an excellent track record of working within community settings. The ideal candidate will have a breadth of understanding of the inner workings of the public health and the U.S. health care system in an effort to effectively lead community conversations and elicit feedback from everyday people related to these topics. The ideal candidate will also have experience with mixed method data collection and qualitative data analysis.  This position works closely with the Director of Research and Community Engagement to support the growth of the people-centered research infrastructure for the organization.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Strategize with the Director of Research and Community Engagement on planning and execution of listening sessions and focus groups;
  • Develop relationships with community organizations across the country for opportunities to engage in listening and focus group sessions;
  • Assess opportunities to expand reach and engagement with community members across the country for listening session opportunities;
  • Participate in community-led coalition meetings as necessary;
  • Coordinate listening session and focus group logistics (i.e. dissemination of Zoom links, answer participant questions, pre-screen participants for eligibility, distribution of incentives following discussions);
  • Conduct listening sessions and focus groups with participants as needed and ensure they  are accommodating for all needs and abilities;
  • Collect demographic data of participants as part of the screening process; clean and upload data into the data warehouse;
  • Process recordings and transcriptions for analysis;
  • Conduct literature searches on key issues among various populations considered for focus groups and listening sessions;
  • Co-write and publish research products related to research findings;
  • Assist in the development of data collection materials such as surveys and focus group guides;
  • Hire and oversee interns;
  • Other research related duties as assigned;
  • Up to 15%  travel may be necessary.

Qualifications

  • MPH degree in public health or related field preferred;
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience performing qualitative and mixed-method data collection activities such as conducting focus groups and listening sessions;
  • Experience building relationships with community members and partners using community based participatory approaches;
  • Proficiency in qualitative analysis software such as Dedoose, NVivo, or MAXQDA strongly preferred;
  • Demonstrated aptitude in problem-solving and critical thinking;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with a fast-paced organization;
  • Willingness to respect different points of view and balance innovation and creativity with action and results;
  • Strong commitment to the organization’s mission to ensuring everyone has access to quality, affordable, and equitable health care;
  • Commitment to prioritizing diversity equity and inclusion principles in all your work, including utilizing organization’s equity lens to inform all work.

Compensation and Location

United States of Care offers a very generous compensation package including medical, dental, and vision insurance; 403b with match, and paid time off. This position is fully remote with some travel required. The salary for this position ranges from $65,000 – $80,000 depending on experience and location.
