Oregon State University Ecampus is seeking a research analyst 3 to join our team. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) classified position.

About the position:

The research analyst serves on the Ecampus analyst team who report to the executive director of market development and the student experience. This position works most closely with the senior research analyst to respond to organizational needs for research and data analytics functions within Ecampus.

Under the guidance of the senior research analyst, this research analyst contributes to the development of qualitative and quantitative research designs, including data collection instruments and procedures, and applies computer tools and statistical measures in their work. This position analyzes data and patterns in enrollment and student academic performance, and communicates the results of analyses and interpretations in oral, narrative, and graphical form. The data is used to manage, track, and evaluate enrollment and student success metrics for all Ecampus programs, which the research analyst incorporates into budget and financial projections in collaboration with the Ecampus fiscal strategist.

In close collaboration with the senior analyst, this position will contribute to the development and maintenance of information systems that provide accurate and reliable reporting to fulfill internal information needs, effectively manage growth, and develop success strategies to recruit and serve Ecampus students.

Position duties include:

  • Design, implement, analyze and prepare reports in response to Ecampus’ internal and external stakeholders, with a primary focus on internal requests for data analyses, employing advanced statistical methods and practices which may employ advanced statistical software and tools.
  • Consult with users to identify and document routine and custom data reporting needs and purposes, workflow issues, output needs and to clarify overall requirements. Organize and present results of research-based analyses for Ecampus internal and external audiences.
  • Analyze complex data and communicate the results to a wide audience with attention to detailed narrative and highly effective tables and data visualizations.
  • Maintain documentation of data requests, record project completion data, and organize reports and queries in system archives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in OSU Institutional Analytics and Reporting, and Institutional Research, in particular, to ensure alignment in data definitions and statistical reporting methodology.
  • In collaboration with unit leadership: identifies major research and assessment projects; designs and leads efforts resulting in analysis and articulation of the findings through formal report writing (narrative and graphical); and presentation of those results to impacted parties, which may include Ecampus leadership and staff, as well as other OSU leadership.
  • Act as data education specialist for Ecampus; in coordination with the senior research analyst, train, guide and coordinate efforts of other Ecampus staff to help ensure quality and consistency of reporting
  • Engage in professional development activities to stay current regarding emerging technology and effective at assigned responsibilities.

Required qualifications:

  • Two years of research experience independently gathering, compiling, and analyzing data using statistical methods (inferential, multivariate analysis, etc.); using statistical software packages to manipulate the data; and preparing narrative or statistical reports and college-level course in statistics (at least six quarter hours); OR An equivalent combination of training and experience. Transcripts must be submitted for all required and/or related courses. Please highlight the statistical courses. NOTE: Some agencies may require experience in using trends (such as social, economical, industrial, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience developing reports analyzing complex data, with attention to detailed narrative and effective data visualizations to support exploration of the data as well as to effectively convey insights gleaned from the analysis.
  • Experience in the design and analysis of complex research/assessments. Advanced experience with analytics tools, such as R, Python, Tableau, Power BI, Excel.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Successful candidate must be committed to working with diverse faculty, staff, and students and have a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics, public policy, psychology, sociology, or related area.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience working with Banner systems, data warehouses, OSU’s CORE reporting system, and/or other similar data and information systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with OSU’s SIS data warehouse.
  • Experience with large-scale analytics systems, such as IBM Watson, Google, AWS.
  • Demonstrated experience with SQL.
  • Demonstrated experience with R, Python, or similar
  • Demonstrated ongoing proactive learning in areas such as coding in SQL, analytics software, and the mission of higher education.

Pay range: $24.22/hour – $37.07/hour. Typically, the starting salary is at the lower end of the salary range.

Work environment: Typical office environment, Ecampus is currently piloting a hybrid work schedule. Tuesday and Thursday are designated in-office days. Employees can work remotely Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
