The Opportunity
Led by the Regional Energy Projects Manager, this role will become part of the regional energy project team for the East and West Midlands, aligning with the Midlands Energy Hub for which energy projects and programmes can be developed and delivered.  Building on Nottingham’s highly successful Carbon Reduction, Energy and Sustainability Division this post covers Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire LEP area, as well as working in partnership with the wider Hub region. The successful candidate will be employed by Nottingham City Council. Applications are invited from across this geographical region, with Stoke and Staffordshire being the main place of work; there will also be the option for some home working as agreed with the line manager.
The Role
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the specific LEP areas element of the Local Capacity Support programme.
  • Form a key part of the regional energy projects team, with responsibility for project development within; Stoke-on Trent and Staffordshire LEP
  • Develop energy project funds and develop and maintain energy generation projects. Agreeing loans, keeping processes, procedures and evidence up to date, assessing and reporting performance, ensuring accuracy of recharging and complying with data capture requirements are all vital to the position.
  • Identify energy project potential within the relevant LEP area, working with stakeholders to identify viable schemes and associated business cases for investment.
  • Lead on the design and specification of improvements to building energy infrastructure and supervise the installation of work on site.
  • Provide detailed performance reporting.
  • Investigating and researching new methods of increasing energy efficiency and reducing water consumption.
  • Taking responsible care for the health and safety of themselves and other people who may be affected by their acts and omissions at work.
  • To collaborate and share knowledge with colleagues on Sustainable Development & Clean Growth and undertake a coordinated and flexible role as necessary to meet the objectives of the wider Local Capacity Support programme.
  • Provide support and advice as required to ensure wider business continuity and emergency planning and undertake any other tasks which are reasonable as directed by the Regional Energy Projects Manager or Head of Energy Services (NCC).
Skills & Experience required
  • Experience of working in an energy projects function and engaging with other service areas such as finance, property, maintenance and transport
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills to identify anomalous data and discover the reasons driving change
  • Interest and commitment to the use, application and development of new technology.
  • A good understanding of the legislation surrounding the energy sector
  •  Understanding of energy markets and their drivers
  • Ability to write compelling business cases
  • An understanding of legal and financial issues surrounding the delivery of energy efficiency projects
  • Energy/environmental qualification or equivalent (degree level)
