Full-Time Regional Program Officer – Africa

ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Regional Program Officer (RPO) – Africa supports the overall development, implementation, and promotion of Water For People’s programmatic work in Africa, which currently includes four Country Programs in Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. You will collaborate with Country, Regional, and Global teams on evidence-based planning and adaptive management of programs in achievement of impact and revenue targets. The RPO represents and promotes Water For People’s programs in communications and fundraising efforts, and provides grant management and business development support. This position is critical to the coordination and consolidation of information flows from Africa country programs throughout the rest of the organization.

As a member of the Strategic Accountability and Adaptation team, you will champion the organization’s Destination 2030 (D30) strategy by contributing to monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and learning throughout the year.

 IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

Facilitate evidence-based programmatic planning in the region

  • Support the development and review of country strategies and implementation plans guided by Destination 2030 vision and strategy.
  • Lead review of planning and reporting documents, including Multiannual Operational Plans, Costs to Reach Everyone, and Tracking Spreadsheet, among others.
  • Support annual planning and reporting processes which include: updating Multiannual Operational Plans, Biannual Reports, Tracking Spreadsheet templates, among others, in coordination with other RPOs and Strategic Accountability and Adaptation team

Promote adaptive management of programs through Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)

  • In coordination with other RPOs and support from Global Programs, lead on preparation of materials for Country Program Reflection Sessions to help promote adaptation in programming at country level.
  • Facilitate country-level updates to the Sustainable Services Checklist, Water For People’s annual district WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) sustainability assessment.
  • In collaboration with Global and in-country Monitoring & Evaluation colleagues, compile, analyze, and track WASH outputs and progress toward strategic objectives for internal and external audiences.
  • In collaboration with MEL colleagues and technical advisers ensure that equity and inclusion monitoring, adaptation, and planning gets incorporated across reflection and planning processes and program design.

Execute effective grant management for Africa country programs.

  • Serve as the main link to Donor Impact (DI) team from the Global Programs team for all programmatic information needed from Africa country programs for pitching to donors.
  • Maintain programmatic information such as people reached through WASH interventions.
  • Understand current revenue situation and goals, including links between budgets, secured, and potential funding sources.
  • Serve as Global Programs-designated reviewer on all active and prospective grants ensuring programmatic and data accuracy for all proposals and reports specific to the Africa region.
  • Participate in Grants Unit meetings to help identify Africa country programs’ grant management needs, upcoming proposals/reports, and business development resource needs.
  • Participate in regional meetings and support country programs with project design, concept note, and proposal writing, for relationships with complex programmatic planning and reporting requirements, as assigned.

Manage clear communication flows across the organization regarding programmatic information.

  • Work closely with other RPOs and others on the Strategic Accountability and Adaptation team to foster global consistency across aspects of reporting, planning, and communications.
  • Serve as the central point of contact in Global Hub for Africa country programs.
  • Serve as the main link to Donor Impact team from the Global Programs team for all programmatic information needed from Africa for Marketing & Communications products.
  • Understand and communicate organizational approach in different contexts to different internal and external audiences, including current and potential donors, and sector partners.
  • Provide programmatic review or additional information in various internal communication tools.
  • Provide up-to-date information on programs in Africa for the organization including challenges, status of impact goals, learning points, evaluation and program documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned by Africa Regional Director or Director of Strategic Accountability and Adaptation

YOU WILL EXCEL IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in international development or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in related field.
  • Good “people skills” and situation judgment in dealing effectively with a variety of constituencies, such as team members in multiple countries, donors, volunteers, people of all ranks and representatives of related organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and monitoring multiple projects, with the aptitude to proactively problem solve and respond creatively to adjustments to the project approach.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Power Point, Outlook, and with emphasis in Excel.

BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE

  • Master’s Degree in relevant field preferred
  • At least one year of work experience in a developing country, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Experience with nonprofit business development, including support to large activities funded by entities such as USAID, FCDO or GIZ.
  • Experience in or familiarity with the water, sanitation and hygiene sector; with international development organizations and foundations; and with partner organizations.

MORE ABOUT THIS ROLE

  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time domestically and internationally to low- and middle-income countries where travel sometimes is rugged.
  • Required to work a flexible schedule including hours outside of normal business hours to engage in meetings across a range of time zones as well as while traveling and when hosting visitors.
  • This position may be based at Water For People Headquarters in Denver, Colorado, with flexibility to work from home; or work 100% remotely (work-from-home) based in any US state except CA, NJ, NY, VT, and WA.
  • Open office environment if choosing to work in the Greenwood Village Office.

 Salary Range:

US anticipated salary range: $58,000 – $68,000 a year. The actual salary will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors.
