Full-Time Regional Organizer, Central/Western Michigan

Voters Not Politicians – Posted by Voters Not Politicians Michigan, United States

Job Description

Voters Not Politicians is a bold and innovative volunteer-powered, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization whose mission is to strengthen democracy through effective citizen action. We are thousands of everyday Michiganders who have transformed the political landscape of Michigan by ending gerrymandering, expanding voting access, and protecting our fundamental right to vote – doing through direct democracy what our politicians would not. With Michigan lacking even basic anti-corruption laws, and our elections flooded by dark and special interest money, Voters Not Politicians will continue to make structural changes in Michigan to put voters at the center of policymaking, while helping groups in other states achieve transformative successes of their own. As stated in the first line of the state’s constitution, “All political power is inherent in the people.”

The candidate must live in central or western Michigan.

The Regional Organizer will:

  • Support the Programs Team to plan and execute voter education or issue advocacy programs.
  • Recruit, train and support volunteers and volunteer leaders over a region representing approximately one-third of Michigan:
    • Guide and support local volunteer groups to engage with the public and local and state government to further voter education and policy goals that strengthen democracy at the local and state level
    • Develop locally appropriate recruitment strategies to support program goals and engage volunteers
    • Track program metrics and progress to campaign and program goals
    • Motivate, support and empower volunteer field leaders to succeed in building strong, active teams that get results, feel connected, and have a high level of satisfaction in their volunteer experience
    • Serve as the primary communication conduit between volunteers and program staff
  • Facilitate voter contact, including in-person field actions and phone and text banks.
  • Plan and supervise calls and meetings as needed.
  • To support volunteer teams, evening and weekend hours and regular travel throughout a large region of Michigan will be required. Mileage will be reimbursed, but this position requires a reliable vehicle.

A preferred candidate will:

  • Have experience recruiting, organizing, and managing volunteers
  • Have some experience with canvassing, phone banking, and/or petition signature collection.
  • Be competent and confident with technology and willing to dig in to learn quickly.
  • Have excellent time management, project management, and communication skills.
  • Be responsive, patient, and open to learning and growing through feedback from colleagues and volunteers.
  • Prioritize diversity, equity and inclusion in line with our values.
  • Be conscientious and a stickler for accuracy.
  • Be willing to respond quickly outside normal business hours.
  • Have a strong passion and commitment to democracy and voting access for all.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage various tasks and priorities, with strong attention to detail.
  • Creativity, positive energy, and a can-do attitude.
  • Passion for democracy work and a core belief that “All political power is inherent in the people.”
