Full-Time Railroad Safety Supervisor
Job Description
- Provide technical, engineering, management, and administrative support.
- Be direct responsible and the authority for the development, implementation, administration and daily management of railroad and rail transit safety oversight and enforcement activities in NC; primarily the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) State Participation Program and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) State System Safety Oversight Program.
- Supervise staff inspectors and professional engineering firms.
- Provide technical guidance and advice to Safety Inspectors and other NCDOT staff and managers.
- Ensure our safety programs assure uniform interpretation and application of State and Federal laws, orders, rules, design and operating standards, and regulations relating to railroad and rail transit safety.
- Provide expertise in the design, construction, maintenance, and use of railroad track, structures, rolling stock equipment, and components.
- Provide support to the NCDOT Rail Division.
- Experience with railroad rules, practices, record systems, and terminology common to operating and maintenance functions.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) safety standards.
- Demonstrated experience implementing or managing a safety enforcement focus in the transportation industry.
- Computer skills using Microsoft Windows & Office.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, safety related degree, or a related technical field, and
- 3+ years of progressive occupational and safety and health experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
