Full-Time Rail Project Development Engineer – NEW HIGHER PAY!
Job Description
- Direct advanced engineering and management of major railroad design and construction projects.
- Oversee multiple private engineering firms and manage the efforts of other NCDOT units supporting assigned projects.
- Manage complex multi-million dollar projects from concept and environmental coordination to preparation of preliminary, right-of-way and final plans, and ultimately through construction.
- Lead the development and negotiation of agreements to deliver the projects with stakeholders including municipalities, private railroad partners, and Federal agencies including the Federal Railroad Administration.
- Review transit and regional/commuter rail projects and other projects involving/impacting railroad corridors.
- Coordinate with railroad companies, municipalities, local, and state officials, transit authorities, other NCDOT Units, State/Federal agencies including the Federal Railroad Administration, private engineering firms, contractors, and the public to meet project schedules and develop the correct project design.
- Considerable knowledge of professional engineering theory, techniques, practices, and procedures as related to railroad design, construction, and operations.
- Deep knowledge of engineering practices and standards.
- In depth knowledge of environmental planning topics/related regulations such as NEPA, National Historic Preservation Act, Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act.
- Basic knowledge of NCDOT Planning, Project Management and Integrated Project Delivery processes.
- Demonstrated ability to apply advanced project management skills to work with teams of advanced level engineers and technicians.
- Experience coordinating assignments and providing guidance and direction to consultant engineers.
- Excellent communications skills to work effectively with municipal officials, politicians, citizens, railroad officials, Federal Railroad Administration, and/or transit administration officials.
- Excellent collaboration and presentation skills to manage complex issues with stakeholder groups and project teams with competing interests.
- You may be required to register as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, and
- 4+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
