Full-Time Rail Equipment Engineer III – NEW HIGHER SALARY!
Job Description
- Perform our most complex and advanced engineering work in the design, operation, maintenance, and documentation of State-owned rail mechanical and maintenance facilities, equipment, and locomotives.
- Develop and oversee training and qualification of maintenance personnel and contractors.
- Provide policy interpretation/implementation to comply with federal/State regulations, NCDOT, and industry requirements.
- Serve as the engineer responsible for all daily rail operations and programs totaling $200M+ in budget authority, including new rail equipment program – the 1st program of its kind in 25 years of NC passenger train operations.
- Ensure compliance with purchasing/inventory procedures, budget management, and determination of the most efficient and effective means to perform all daily engineering and operations of rail mechanical and maintenance facilities, passenger equipment, and locomotives.
- Manage all rail mechanical and maintenance facility and equipment design specifications including civil, electrical and mechanical requirements.
- Ensure quality assurance/quality control, work planning, and scheduling of critical tasks, availability of facilities and equipment and contractor performance.
- Be directly responsible for mechanical contractor personnel at 2 sites, plus contract personnel at out-of-state maintenance companies, other consulting engineering firms, and architects on a continuing basis.
- Maintain high-level contacts with the Federal Railroad Administration, Amtrak, equipment manufacturers, vendors, other state and federal agencies, Rail Division, and NCDOT leadership in carrying out complex programs and projects.
- Management experience giving final approval for complex or a broad variety/scope of program/project specifications for completeness, compatibility, compliance with engineering principles, standards, codes, and design needs.
- Experience researching alternatives and designs or analyzing special details for non-standard items of work for programs/projects.
- Experience managing complex or broad variety/scope of programs/projects for completeness, compatibility, compliance with engineering principles and design needs and standards.
- Experience serving as technical expert in rail equipment management.
- Leadership experience to help set and achieve our long-range strategic goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and
- 4+ years experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
