Full-Time Rail Engineering Supervisor III – NEW HIGHER SALARY!
Job Description
- Administer operations, stakeholder engagement, engineering, and maintenance of state-supported passenger trains through contracts, contractors, and State employees.
- Coordinate daily operations of the 4 state-supported intercity passenger rail roundtrips between Raleigh and Charlotte between NCDOT, Amtrak, and Class I freight hosts.
- Directly lead coordination with municipalities, transit agencies, and Municipal Planning Organizations (MPOs) for all ongoing and future operational planning needs.
- Track train and equipment performance of NCDOT’s fleet while working in concert with Amtrak, 3rd-party consultants, and contract employees.
- Oversee compliance with purchasing and inventory procedures, budget management, and determination of the most efficient and effective means to manage the engineering and operations of rail mechanical and maintenance facilities, passenger equipment, and locomotives.
- Review and approve our most complex rail mechanical and maintenance facility and equipment engineering and design specifications including civil, electrical, and mechanical requirements.
- Oversee, supervise, and direct all quality assurance/quality control, work planning, and scheduling of critical tasks, availability of facilities and equipment, and contractor performance.
- Supervise mechanical contractor staff at 2 sites, contracts with maintenance companies, and other consulting engineering firms.
- Coordinate with your supervisor to ensure that Rail Division leadership is informed as well as Amtrak, mechanical contractors, professional engineering firms, other State agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure a successful state rail services operation.
- Railroad engineering, mechanical, or operations experience.
- Experience negotiating and/or administering railroad agreements for projects, programs, and/or services.
- Working knowledge managing budgets/contracts of limited scope and complexity including resources such as budget, staff, and equipment within timelines and appropriate fiscal rules and developing strategies to improve quality of service, performance, and budgetary/operational efficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with state and local officials, citizens, railroad officials, Federal Railroad Administration, Amtrak, and transit administration officials.
- Management experience supervising a team of engineers and professional staff and 3+ permanent employees, contractors, and/or consultants.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and
- 5+ years of relevant experience, and
- 3+ years supervisory experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
