Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Radio Host/Content Producer plays a dynamic role within the programming team, collaborating with the Radio Manager and News Director to create innovative programming and content strategies for broadcast. This position encompasses the roles of on-air host during NPR’s All Things Considered, producing a weekly 30-minute radio program, and working with volunteer hosts to develop music programing.

- On-Air Hosting: Deliver live on-air presentation of local news, traffic and weather during local breaks within NPR’s All Things Considered with professionalism and enthusiasm, maintaining an engaging on-air presence that resonates with diverse audiences, and reflects the station’s public service mission.
- Program Production: Curate and produce compelling, relevant stories for a 30-minute weekly community radio program, leveraging multimedia formats to ensure diverse local representation while providing editorial direction balancing community narratives with in-depth reporting. Repackage program content for the station’s website, podcasts and social media ensuring a cohesive online presence that engages the audience. Works with the Digital Content Manager as needed.
- Music Programming: Collaborate with volunteer music hosts to further develop and define KRCB’s unique sound and style, crafting an entertaining, eclectic, and diverse music selection across genres. Utilize audience ratings, trends and market rankings to shape playlists. Collaborate with public media colleagues across the country and delve into the system’s extensive resources to uphold best practices and build new growth strategies for the station. Work with the programming team to plan and drive music events and in-studio performances.
- Community Engagement: Interact with the public at one or two events each quarter, strengthening community ties and building relationships.
- Fundraising: Participate in fundraising activities on and off air.
- Other Duties: Embrace additional responsibilities as directed by management, adapting to the evolving landscape of community media.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no direct reports.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities for engaging diverse audiences effectively.
- Production Insight: Understanding of radio and television production methodologies, writing for broadcast and FCC/Public Media regulations and compliance.
- Content and Engagement Strategy: Work collaboratively to design, implement, and measure new marketing and growth strategies using Eastlan ratings data, demographic trends, surveys, analytical thinking, and other tools.
- Music Programming Experience: Knowledge and passion for a wide range of music and the skills to expand and diversify KRCB’s listener base through programming strategies.
- Audio Skills: Proficient in audio recording, mixing practices and operating live broadcast equipment.
- Core Competencies Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage workflows in a fast-paced environment. Flexible, adaptable, collaborative with a proven ability to meet daily deadlines.
- Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail in all aspects of production and programming with a high attention to detail in all work produced.
- Technical Aptitude: Familiarity with both Windows and Mac systems, MS Office, Outlook, Google apps, along with proficiency in broadcast automation systems and Adobe Audition.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience in radio or media production.
- Public Media or non-profit experience. BA/BS degree in media, communications, journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: Five years in a similar role.
- Knowledge of the local community and the Bay Area music scene.
- Valid driver’s license.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee works in an office environment. Work requires occasional weekend and/or evening work. Occasional travel may be required.
What We Offer:
This is a full-time (40-hr per week), exempt, salaried position. The salary range is $66,750-$70,000, depending on experience. Benefits offered include medical, dental, vision, 403B, paid vacation and holidays, floating holidays, diversity training programs, and mental health resources.
