THE ROLE

As a Purchasing Associate at FGM, you will be responsible for receiving our metals at the processor and other warehouse locations. You’re in charge of the maintenance and distribution of receiving documents which is critical to customer satisfaction.

In this role you will also have the opportunity to engage in our cross-functional Operations Training Program, learning multiple facets of our business, including the following: Inventory, Production, Supply Chain, Accounting, and Customer Service.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Enter data/inventory against ERP (Dynamics AX) transfer orders to record the receipt of material into processor and other warehouses
  • Enter transfer costs as applicable
  • Verify the accuracy of information on shipping & receiving documents
  • Resolve discrepancies between documentation and ERP (Dynamics AX) in a timely manner
  • Respond timely to inquiries from customers, vendors, and colleagues
  • Communicate with warehouses/processors regarding incoming material
  • Maintain and distribute mill documents/ packing list to processors when a railcar, barge or vessel is in route to their facility
  • Assist with other Purchasing-related administrative tasks and data entry
  • Facilitate the flow of information and documentation related to supplier shipments and warehouse receipts.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • Initiative and heightened sense of urgency to work proactively in a fast-paced environment
  • Customer orientation and the ability to respond to different personalities
  • Resourcefulness and initiative in problem solving
  • Effective, concise communication in person, on the phone, and in writing
  • Ability to organize, plan, prioritize and execute on multiple tasks under dynamic time constraints
  • Comfort with bringing potential issues to light, asking questions, and driving resolution
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and also excel and contribute as an individual
  • Experience in the steel or metal industry or service center industry preferred

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibility.
