Job Summary
Clark County Public Works Office of the County Engineer is seeking a Customer Service Representative (Office Assistant II) to support our customer service program. This position is 100% in the office (remote work not available).
Public Works is responsible for building and maintaining infrastructure that our community uses every day to include county roads and parks. This position provides complex customer service both internally and externally primarily by phone. It is a direct link between the public and Public Works and is vital to the emergency response of the department as this position will receive inquiries and requests for road and park maintenance that could be of an immediate nature and must be prioritized and responded to accurately and timely. It is imperative that the incumbent has the confidence to make important decisions on their own and have the ability to take initiative as needed.
Qualifications
Two years of customer service experience using a multi-line phone system, performing with limited task supervision, emphasizing, or including intensive public contact by phone, ability to interpret and explain county maintenance activities, experience in relaying accurate and detailed information, researching answers to complex questions; general office work processes and use of modern office technology. In this position, the incumbent must, upon entry into the position, be able to type at a rate of no less than 55 words per minute.
Knowledge of: general office procedures and practices of the specialized functions, policies and procedures of the work unit; spelling, capitalization, punctuation and rules of grammar, and of the formats and clerical procedures used in performing the work; record-keeping procedures; applicable laws, county codes, ordinances, and policies governing the work of the department and assignment; business English; PC computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and specialized data bases..
Ability to: answer a multi-line phone system and put calls on hold; research anwers to questions to determine division and/or department responsibility; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships both internally and externally; maintain a courteous attitude toward the public and fellow employees, even under stressful and unpleasant situations; accurately create work requests based on information obtained; master the more complex department processes, services and functions; operate standard office equipment such as computer software applications, telephones, copy machines; apply sound judgment in making decisions independently and oftentimes quickly in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations; ability to take initiative to find answers and complete tasks; diffuse difficult or highly charged phone calls; follow oral and written instructions; effectively guide and assist other employees; evaluate and improve department service delivery through enhancement of procedures, systems, organizational approaches and record keeping; develop and demonstrate effective customer service techniques; communicate effectively both orally and in written form.

Salary Grade: Local 307.503 ($18.44 – $23.52) per hour
