Full-Time Public Relations Strategist
Job Description
The public relations strategist is a key member of the University News and Public Relations team, helping to communicate the efforts of the university to its various audiences, both internally and externally.
This position is responsible for producing compelling news and features to include press releases, crisis messaging, briefings, talking points, newsletter, social media and web content, along with distribution of content on behalf of the university to traditional and non-traditional media, stakeholders and internal audiences. This position assists the director of News and Public Relations in generating media interest through developing, writing and pitching story ideas to journalists, and helping to facilitate contact between university faculty, administration and students with journalists in the local, regional and national media. In addition to assisting with official university responses, this position also manages the news database, the university news website and online event calendar, and serves a secondary role as university spokesperson.
Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, marketing, communication or related field.
It is preferred that the person in this position have 3-5 years experience in producing compelling news and/or feature stories, writing press releases and other newsletter and web content, as well as experience in speaking with the media. This person should also have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and have an understanding of the 24-hour news media cycle.
Position requires typical computer skills, excellent writing, editing and verbal skills, as well as research skills and knowledge of Associated Press and university styles to perform assigned duties.
Annual salary range $50k – $54k.
