Position Overview: We are seeking a Public Relations Manager to work closely with the SVP of Public Relations & Corporate Communications to promote a positive image for the company and its comprehensive portfolio from around the globe. This includes increasing brand awareness among the press, trade and general public through strategic management of relationships, planning, participation, and execution of U.S. press tours for winery principals, judicious use of product sample programs, development of comprehensive written communication tools, and participation in industry events. The successful Public Relations Manager will work effectively with counterparts in marketing and sales to support sales goals and outcomes.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Support SVP, Public Relations & Corporate Communications in developing and executing comprehensive public relations programs for our company, and wine and spirits portfolio.
- Assist with the development of ongoing media relations strategy, securing high-level placements in print, broadcast and online media.
- Develop and disseminate a full range of written material in support of strategic communications program, including but not limited to: press kit materials, news releases, producer profiles and backgrounders, technical sheets, tasting notes and pitch letters.
- Assist in the organization and execution of national press tours and virtual tours, entailing extensive interface with winery principals, winemakers and influential members of the press. Approximately 25% travel within the U.S. a must, when conditions return to normal.
- Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts within business and industry media.
- Identify media targets, manage database to ensure successful market penetration; initiate and manage relationships with the media; act as a liaison between winery principals and the press.
- Promptly respond to daily requests for samples, information and photos from food, wine, lifestyle and general press.
- Execute press sample programs, in collaboration with PR Coordinator, to secure coverage for newly-released products/vintages; manage submissions to wine competitions.
- In collaboration with PR Coordinator, monitor media coverage for all brands using press clipping services.
- Coordinate with marketing team on development and editing of copy for brand-specific marketing materials.
- Assist marketing team with creation of materials for company website, as needed. Maintain regular contact with digital team to ensure the website is a relevant information source for internal and external audiences.
- Participate in and represent the company at trade and consumer events and tastings. This will entail some evenings and occasional weekends.
- Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends impacting our portfolio and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategies surrounding them.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or related field
- Minimum 3 years experience in wine industry-related public relations strongly preferred
- Superior creative writing and editing skills a must; attention to detail essential
- A proven track record of successful PR campaigns. Proven experience developing and successfully pitching ideas and stories
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills crucial
- Ability to interact confidently and effectively with high level winery principals and influential members of the press and trade
- Familiarity with the wine industry trade media and consumer wine, food and lifestyle magazines
- Professional wine knowledge and desire to evolve depth of product understanding
- Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to work under pressure and to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Team player with results-oriented attitude
- Willingness to travel and flexibility to work after hours, including evenings and occasional weekends
- Experience with technologies and best practices for media campaigns across multiple platforms, including social media
- Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, PowerPoint and Internet required. CisionPoint, Excel, Adobe Photoshop skills helpful
