Job Description
Position Overview
This position is responsible for the University’s Public Health programs to ensure safe and healthy work, living, and learning spaces for the greater campus community. Programs of responsibility include Public Health such as communicable disease control, education, and outreach, and also the safety of campus food service of all types, including catering and events.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Occupational Health, or other Health Science field and 4 years of associated experience in public health/public medicine/programs/food safety.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
This position involves auditing, reporting, training, and the ability to interact with outside regulatory agencies.
The Public Health Program Manager must also be able to create, develop, and improve written policies, procedures, and manuals. As such, the position requires a broad understanding of applicable Public Health regulations and best practices, technical expertise, and the ability to work productively with a variety of people and departments across the UNT campus to assure compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding Public Health and Food Service.
Job Duties
Monitors compliance of federal and state regulations by performing inspections of campus cafeterias, coffee vendors, food courts and
concessions for UNT Denton, UNT Dallas and UNT Health Science Center and creates and sustains database for food facility inspection results.

Establishes, maintains, coordinates, reviews, and evaluates epidemiology activities at the University, including communicable disease and vital statistics. Collects, reviews, and evaluates data including case reports, health statistics, and demographic information to identify possible epidemiological trends, locations, and sources.
Active key participant in the University Health Crisis Team.
Advises University Leaders on the interpretation and implication of statistical analysis, surveys, and program evaluations.
Provides oversight, consultation and inspection of all food related temporary events and third party vendors scheduled on campus to assure food safety guidelines are met and encourages safe food handling by providing guidance and consultation to the UNT community on safe food handling
techniques for bake sales, pot lucks, and tailgating. Performs preliminary investigation of health events affecting UNT community; convenes and coordinates the University Health Crisis Team when necessary.
Investigates UNT foodborne and communicable disease related incidents, contacting County officials.
Reviews plans and specifications for new and remodeled food facilities and equipment.
Notifies UNT food establishment of new regulations, food recalls, and other pertinent information and reports all violations to appropriate personnel and assures corrective actions are completed. Implements training presentations for food safety, health concerns and work station ergonomics and informs campus community of health alerts and maintains accurate and current health information on the Risk Management Services website.
Develops, reviews and updates University food and health policies and standard operating procedures. Serves as liaison with City, County and State officials for food safety issues, health concerns and FOG reporting. Assumes the lead role, in the absence of the Industrial Hygienist, for mold
concerns and assessments.
