Temporary Public Health Dietitian
Job Description
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., recreation, workplaces, places of worship) to create food environments that enable healthy eating where people live, work and play
- Plan, support, implement and evaluate health promotion programs, policies and strategies
- Conduct community needs assessments and situational assessments
- Prepare detailed program planning and evaluation documentation, reports, briefing notes, and statistical analyses
- Serve as a subject matter expert on topics related to public health sciences, specifically food and nutrition issues, trends and practices
- Interpret and analyze nutrition information and evidence in order to provide recommendations to supervisor or middle management for policy and/or program development
- Act as a project lead, consultant or committee chair for a diverse range of projects
- Develop new or revise existing nutrition-related communication tools to align with evidence informed programming
- Develop and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners
- Ensure that issues of diversity, ethnicity, language and culture are reflected in health promotion planning and programs
What the role requires:
- Bachelor of Science Degree specializing in food and nutrition
- Completion of an accredited dietetic internship or equivalent
- Current general registration in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
- Minimum of two years’ experience in community or public health nutrition
- Combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills/Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of current food and nutrition issues, trends and practices
- Background and understanding of research methods, policy development, analysis and critical appraisal including awareness of evidence informed decision making
- Knowledge of public health sciences including population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology and applicable legislation
- Well-developed and proven written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge and demonstrated expertise in using health promotion strategies and program planning and evaluation
- Strong analytical skills to interpret and apply data
- Demonstrated facilitation, partnership/collaboration, project management, planning, problem-solving and organizational skills
- Competence in Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook programs
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you’ll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you’ll have the ability to work remotely and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.
It’s important to note that your remote work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we’re compliant with all regulations and policies.
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week. The Region of Peel offers job based flexible hours of work that allows employees to manage personal and professional responsibilities while at the same time ensures business operational needs and customer service expectations are achieved.
