Part-Time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a licensed Nurse Practitioner in New York State and hold a Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or other psychiatric specialty designation desired. Must possess DATA 2000 waiver OR be able to obtain it within six (6) months after hire date. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and computer competency/fluency. Reliable transportation required, valid NYS driver’s license preferred.
The Nurse Practitioner is part of an interdisciplinary team and is knowledgeable about evidence-based practices for substance use disorder (SUD) assessments. This position is responsible for evaluating physical health, mental health, and substance use disorders, and making recommendations for treatment interventions. The successful candidate is familiar with DSM-5 and LOCATDR, and has experience with evidence-based treatments and medication interventions for SUD withdrawal and stabilization. This is not a fully remote position (anticipated to be in the office once per week, possibly more depending on organizational/client needs).
JOB DUTIES
- Complete medical assessments to determine medical conditions, substance use disorders, and mental health disorders;
- Evaluate symptoms of substance use disorders and mental health disorders;
- Develop the medical component of treatment/recovery plans;
- Develop evidence-based withdrawal protocols and progress monitoring procedures;
- Evaluate medication-assisted treatment needs and monitor initiation/continuation of treatment in support of ongoing recovery and minimization of emotional discomfort resulting from early recovery (Residential Stabilization Program);
- Treat, diagnose, and prescribe for conditions that fall within the specialty area;
- Make appropriate medical/psychiatric referrals for conditions that are beyond the scope of care that can reasonably be provided within the residence;
- Develop evidence-based withdrawal protocols with medication-assisted treatment, as appropriate, for the Medically Supervised Withdrawal and Stabilization Program;
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and provides medical perspective and recommendations as appropriate;
- Order lab tests, review results, and share results and recommendations with resident;
- Diagnose and treat substance use disorders;
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings;
- Document all medical activities appropriately in the electronic health record;
- Give clear directions to nursing staff regarding expectations of nursing protocols that support medical assessment and treatment plan;
- Provide support to the Medical Director to ensure consistent medical policies and protocols throughout the residential programs;
- Other duties as assigned.
Compensation: Competitive; $100-$110/hr (<10 hrs per week); Commensurate with experience; Excellent benefits include exciting opportunities for professional development.
