About the Position:
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners at SLMH provide psychiatric evaluation, develop treatment regimes and medication plans, prescribe appropriate psychiatric medications to clients, monitor effectiveness and impact, and in conjunction with therapists and treatment teams assist with implementing the full treatment plan for clients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess client status and prescribe medications as necessary.
- Review and adjust medication plans, including evaluating reactions and effectiveness of medication plans of clients.
- Provide education to clients about medication management and options.
- Provide therapy to clients as necessary.
- Work with clients to provide services in the environment that provides the best opportunity for success, including conducting appointments in the office, in the community or schools, over the phone, and/or conducting home visits as necessary and appropriate.
- Order labs and conduct general health reviews with clients to assist with identifying side effects and impacts of medications.
- Coordinate care with other members of the client’s treatment team, as well as other providers, families, courts, schools, etc. as required to assist the client succeed in meeting individual goals, and participate in complex case reviews, family system reviews, or team meetings as necessary.
- Provide consultation to therapists, case managers and specific teams.
- Understand that many individuals have been traumatized and strive to constantly provide services from a respectful, trauma-informed perspective.
- Complete all required paperwork, including notes on each session and individual client paperwork as well as annual assessments, in a timely manner.
- Review and sign off on mental health evaluations.
- Meet requirements regarding productivity and dependability.
- Actively participate in clinical supervision, as well as staff meetings.
- Participate in completeness and quality reviews as required.
- As required, positively represent SLMH in the community and with other service providers, and/or act as a liaison with other organizations or with internal committees/cross-departmental teams.
- Perform all duties in a respectful and responsible manner, both with clients and coworkers, and in a manner that meets all professional ethical standards.
- Engage in continuing education activities and trainings, and maintain appropriate continuing education credits as required by board and licensure, as well as continually building therapeutic skills.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing and either Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice required.
- Current Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner required.
- Active RN license and DEA registration.
- Experience and interest in working with youth client strongly preferred.
- Detailed knowledge of psychiatric medications and treatment protocols.
- Ability to diagnosis mental health conditions and develop treatment plans.
- Ability to identify side effects and impacts of medication, and adjust treatment plans as appropriate.
- Ability to balance clinical, cultural, and ethical values, particularly as relates to client and staff needs.
- Strong written and oral communications skills.
- Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural background.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Sound computer skills.
