ActionAid UK is a member of the ActionAid Federation, an international charity that works with women and girls living in poverty. As part of the ActionAid Federation, we work with women and girls, our partners, and dedicated staff in 43 countries to end violence and fight poverty so that all women, everywhere, can create the future they want.
As our Proposal Writer and Grant Specialist, your role will be central in securing income from high value donors (worth £100K+ per annum), that fund some of our most critical work. This will involve developing and writing high quality proposals, concept notes and reports in line with our organisational priorities. As part of our internally-focussed Strategic Funding and Insight Team you will work closely with colleagues across our federation to ensure we are presenting the highest priority and most strategic work to our donors. You will ensure that content is engaging and relevant as well as ensuring work is in line with our branding. You will also support the country facing aspects of grant management for a select number of large strategic grants. This will involve setting up new projects, establishing log frames, monitoring and evaluation frameworks and grant management and reporting schedules, and keeping donor-facing account managers informed on progress. Important also will be your ability to improve efficiency by enhancing systems and processes. Experienced at developing proposals, you will have prepared compelling and cohesive programme materials and key communications to inspire high value donors. Skilled at presenting complex project information in a clear and engaging way, you must have a track record of developing proposals that attract significant donations from major donors, charitable trusts and foundations and/or corporates. You will have a good understanding of international development programmes including terminology and language. You will also be effective at liaising with multiple stakeholders, meeting deadlines and budgeting. In addition, you will have proven experience of setting up large grants, grant management and working closely with international team members and programmatic specialists to manage high value income.
A willingness to travel both within the UK and internationally is required for this role. International travel will be for situation such as: for inception workshops, monitoring visits, etc. Additional information can be provided about travel at interview.
*We are looking for someone with experience and therefore you may be at a Manager level – however this role does not have line management experience and internally here at AAUK – we refer to the role as Specialist.

We have offices in London and Somerset. We are currently piloting a hybrid working model and you can agree the days you work at home with your manager, however, you are expected to attend team meetings and other events in-person as requested. Please do bear in mind the rules around hybrid working may change in 2023 when the pilot ends.
