Full-Time Project Manager for the Policing Project

Job Description

Civil Rights Corps is seeking a project      manager to join our team. This individual primarily will help lead CRC’s Policing Project,[1] and will work on other litigation department tasks as needed.

 

Job duties include:

 

  • Working with Civil Rights Corps policing teams on litigation support, to include communicating with clients, witnesses and putative class members, drafting memoranda, proofreading briefs, filing pleadings, managing litigation calendars, submitting records requests, assisting with discovery production and review, organizing large quantities of responsive documents, and a variety of other case support duties.
  • Assisting with development and management of intake interview processes.
  • Interviewing survivors of police violence for the Policing Project.
  • Gathering and managing documents and other evidence of police abuse.
  • Helping to develop and implement an attorney assignment system.
  • Working independently or with a contractor to develop a database backend for a police litigation clearinghouse with training information, case management, and evidence retrieval functionalities.
  • Designing workflows and accompanying documentation for the client intake and attorney assignments system(s).
  • Conducting analysis of facts, records and information and working with attorneys and investigators to integrate information into case preparation.
  • Coordinating with local and national advocacy organizations, attorneys, and community partners.
  • Assisting with development of a police misconduct litigation training program for attorneys.
  • Coordinating the recruitment, training and management of participating attorneys as well as other volunteers.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients, community partners, organizers, coalition members, and legal allies.
  • Working collaboratively with attorneys, fellows, investigators, and policy and communications staff.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission, purpose, and values of CRC.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Adobe, and database management
  • Race and identity competency, ability to understand and navigate issues of identity, power and privilege with clients, partners and colleagues.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, with those directly impacted by the criminal legal system, and on behalf of low-income clients.
  • Proven ability to take initiative, establish priorities, work independently, self-motivate, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Innovative thinking, an unwillingness to accept things as they are, and a strong work ethic are essential.

 

Salary Benefits, and Logistics

 

This is a full-time position beginning in July 2022; preference will be given to candidates based in or willing to relocate to Washington, D.C., but remote candidates will be considered. The project manager will receive excellent benefits, including full health care coverage, generous retirement benefits, and public transportation benefits. The position will be paid a competitive salary commensurate with experience and consistent with CRC’s salary scale.  The beginning salary for this position is $46,000.  This position is eligible for overtime pay.  Federal holidays will be paid  time off, along with paid vacation and sick leave.  This position is included within        United Civil Rights Workers, the CRC workers’ union.
