Full-Time Project Manager

UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center – Posted by UNClineberger Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States

Job Description

Description: UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hussman School of Journalism and Media seek a full-time Project Manager to lead the day-to-day operations for a new research lab at UNC focused on health communication. The Communicating for Health Impact (CHI) lab, led by Dr. Seth M. Noar, is dedicated to promoting health through communication, and its research projects focus on understanding effective communication practices for behavior change.

The Project Manager will support vision-setting and communications for the CHI Lab and will work closely with Dr. Noar to carry out CHI Lab’s research portfolio. Specifically, the Project Manager will collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team to implement a 5-year grant from the National Institutes of Health and Food and Drug Administration focused on e-cigarette and vaping prevention. The project manager may also assist with other CHI Lab research projects.

Currently in its second year, the grant “Impact of E-Cigarette Prevention Messages on Adolescents” is developing and testing messages to prevent adolescent vaping and e-cigarette use. In partnership with a major marketing agency, CHI Lab is developing e-cigarette prevention messages, testing the efficacy of those messages to prevent youth vaping, and implementing and evaluating the messages in a randomized controlled trial using text messaging.

The Project Manager will serve as the primary staff member responsible for the planning and timely implementation of research activities for the project. This includes overseeing the day-to-day project operations and coordinating research activities (i.e., facilitating team meetings, managing project budgets, project planning, progress reports to funders, IRB applications, and other related study tasks). The Project Manager will also contribute to the team’s dissemination of study findings through presentations at state and national research conferences and through published manuscripts.

Lastly, to support public health practitioners who are combatting the vaping epidemic across the country, the Project Manager will be involved in dissemination activities, including interfacing with UNC’s Vaping Prevention Resource team (vapingprevention.org) to rapidly disseminate research findings on vaping prevention.
