- Execute the day-to-day activities and tasks leading multi-disciplinary teams delivering pre-construction to construction projects.
- Manage scope, schedules, budgets, quality, and risks for a broad range of transportation projects.
- Make decisions on routine engineering matters and other areas requiring technical engineering knowledge.
- Make recommendations to approve routine engineering/technical designs, program, and project specifications of other engineers to meetings desired compliance with engineering principles, standards, codes, designs, and statutes.
- Prepare and review small or less complex engineering and technical plans and/or data for completeness, compatibility, compliance with engineering principles, standards, codes and design needs.
- Make recommendations to senior engineers and managers on project concerns/issues.
- Ensure sufficient coverage and records for proposed programs/projects under guidance of a senior engineer.
- Understand and apply basic engineering concepts, practices, and theories used in the design, development, review, permitting, construction, maintenance, operation, or repair of projects, sites, and their potential environmental and safety impacts.
- Apply math, physical, and engineering sciences to routine services or creative work as consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning, and design of engineering/geomatic projects.
- Plan methods and resources.
- Serve as a member on a program or project team and helps develop project solutions.
- Serve as team leader.
- Promote NCDOT program goals and objectives.
- Experience reading/interpreting highway construction plans and contracts.
- Computer skill using Microsoft Office and drafting software.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and construction methods, materials, and equipment.
- Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Experience preparing and reviewing complex engineering and technical plans/data for completeness, compatibility, and compliance with engineering principles, standards, codes, and design needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering and
- 3+ years of relevant experience, or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
