Job Description

BGC Canada is seeking a Project Accountant to join the Finance team. Reporting to the Manager, Accounting & Reporting, this is a full-time, contract role with a fixed end date of March 31, 2025. The incumbent will be an important link between the Finance and Program teams and will lead the program reporting procedures while maintaining accurate project budgets and cash flow records.

BGC Canada’s national team provides support to our member Clubs and leads in issues management, policy advocacy, and other critical work on behalf of Clubs. We advance the agenda for the children, youth, and families served by member Clubs through crucial work in the areas of public policy, research, program development, and Club support. The national team is also responsible for building the BGC brand, fundraising, and managing public relations and communications for our cause.

About You

As a Project Accountant at BGC Canada, you’ll bring at least two years of experience in project accounting, ideally in a not-for-profit setting, along with a relevant post-secondary qualification. Your advanced Excel skills, impeccable attention to detail, and adeptness with Microsoft tools make you a financial powerhouse. You excel in managing complex data and meet tight deadlines effortlessly. Your exceptional interpersonal and communication skills foster collaboration, aligning perfectly with BGC Canada’s Core Values. You’re our ideal candidate if you also have experience in government-funded projects, Sage Intacct, Salesforce, deferred revenue, and fund accounting. About the Role

The Project Accountant will take ownership of all the financial aspects of projects undertaken by BGC Canada. Also, they are expected to promptly deliver critical information on current projects to the program team and play an essential role in project proposal preparation.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for project financial reporting to government and financial authorities upon request
  • Develop and maintain project budget and cash flow templates
  • Ensure project revenue and expenses are coded correctly in the financial accounting system
  • Support the program team by providing timely, accurate financial information and providing guidance on related financial matters
  • Assist The Manager, Accounting & Reporting and Director of Finance in developing project financial proposals

 Minimum requirements

  • A minimum of two (2) years experience as a project accountant or similar role, preferably within a not-for-profit organization
  • Post-secondary qualification in a related field, including finance or accounting
  • Experience in a Microsoft environment (Microsoft 365, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, etc.) and other web-based software
  • Must possess intermediate to advanced level Excel skills
  • Proficiency in managing project ledgers, journal entries, and account reconciliations
  • High level of attention to detail and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; willing to connect with internal and external contacts
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced and demanding environment. Excellent at meeting deadlines and managing workload
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to respond to emails in a timely manner.
  • A service orientation with a genuine desire and commitment to help your colleagues and a willingness to take initiative on tasks and assignments
  • An enthusiasm for leveraging our technology to help achieve team objectives

Our Ideal candidate

  • Experience in a charity or not-for-profit organization
  • Experience in reporting on government-funded projects
  • Experience with Sage Intacct and Salesforce
  • Advanced level Excel skills
  • Experience with deferred revenue and fund accounting
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of critical thinking and analysis
  • Strong interpersonal skills, client-focused thinking and ability to work with management at all levels
  • Ability to receive and give supportive feedback to foster equity and inclusion in working relationships
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and be self-motivated
  • Possesses excellent writing, editing and interpersonal skills. Communicates effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences

Working Environment

The successful candidate can work remotely outside Toronto, Ontario; if in Toronto, they will be expected to work in a hybrid model. When working from home, the incumbent must have a space where they can work comfortably and focus on their tasks. BGC Canada will provide the necessary technology required to get the job done.

This is a full-time, contract role ending on March 31, 2025. The salary range for this position starts at $60,000, plus excellent benefits. Placement within the range is commensurate with experience.
