Full-Time Program Officer for Education

Job Description

Reporting to the Program Director of Education, the Program Officer is responsible for research and writing, project management, policy development and analysis, meeting organization, and administrative functions related to the Academy’s work in the Education program area. Embracing and advancing a cross-disciplinary approach, the Program Officer collaborates with Academy members, policy experts, and staff to advance the work of the program area . The Education Program is focused on reimaging education, K-12 and higher education, to advance equitable outcomes for all students. This portfolio uses a dynamic approach to advance our work: engaging higher education leaders at the Higher Education Forum, exploratory meetings on issues of urgency throughout the education system, as well as a new multi-year commission that examines ways to strengthen the relationship between K-12 and higher education.

 

Location and Work Environment

The work location for this role is flexible, with a preference for the area, near the Academy’s headquarters in Cambridge, MA. Occasional travel, nights, and weekends may be required.

 

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Collaborate with staff and Academy Fellows to conduct research, organize meetings, and write reports as part of multi-year commissions and projects.
  • Identify and gather research materials for commissions and meetings; facilitate the flow of information among committee/panel members, staff, consultants, and other applicable parties.
  • Draft grant proposals and assist in fundraising.
  • Provide research support in data collection, synthesis, and analysis.
  • Draft and/or edit materials for internal use and for external publication including background research reports, drafts and final reports, proceedings, occasional papers, and articles for Academy publications.
  • Provide guidance and support in the work of committees, subcommittees, and working groups and provide guidance and support in the conduct of their work.
  • Manage workshops, meetings, and/or conferences including developing agendas, inviting presenters and participants, overseeing meeting logistics and multimedia presentations, and preparing written summaries.
  • Represent the program areas at various convenings as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree with at least five years of relevant professional work experience or PhD with at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated evidence of working on issues related to advancing equitable outcomes and removing barriers for students (research and/or work experience appreciated)
  • Strong skills in academic research, data collection and analysis, and ability to translate collected data clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with relevant organizations and public policy, experience in the K-12 and/or higher education space a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including an ability to synthesize and summarize research findings and recommendations for a variety of audiences; Experience with grant or proposal writing a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with a wide variety of internal and external groups including funders, academic, policy, and research institutions, and other potential partners
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment.
