LOCATION: remote within the United States, including the District of Columbia, US territories, and Native lands.
TRAVEL: low
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: none

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The program manager for the Transgender Leadership Initiative leads the organization’s efforts to establish a sustainable and effective leadership development initiative reflective of the communities most affected by HIV. The program manager provides substantive program and administrative coordination to community leaders and their affiliated organizations in development and implementation of the leadership training program and support to local transgender and gender-nonconforming leaders.
The program manager must have demonstrated experience with developing and facilitating leadership skills and capacity building assistance for individuals and community-based organizations. This individual must be a self-motivated critical thinker with keen attention to detail. They must be able to work in a fast-paced, remote environment, with the demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a diverse team. A successful program manager will understand the balance and challenges between national program management and local community implementation and will have significant history leading or working with community-based, social justice-focused and transgender and gender-nonconforming-led organizations in the HIV field.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Manager provides effective administrative and leadership support with key areas of responsibility, including:
Leadership development
- In concert with facilitation partners and consultants, design and implement curricula for transgender and gender-nonconforming leadership development.
- Develop and conduct an application process (including, but not limited to, application development, leader selection and announcements).
- Provide leadership development support to local transgender and gender-nonconforming leaders within each grantee organization, including developing new leadership curricula, strengthening existing curricula and delivering leadership curricula.
- Monitor timeline and progress of leaders’ service-learning projects.
- Plan and oversee online (and, eventually, in-person) convenings and other learning opportunities.
Budget monitoring
- Monitor spending to ensure adherence to the appropriate allocation of funds and resources.
- Participate in routine budget-to-actuals meetings with controller.
- Maintain effective communication with program funders, including collaborating with other AIDS United staff on the submission of timely reports and ongoing updates about the progress of the initiative.
- Provide ongoing, routine communication and updates to funders and fulfill funder requests for supplemental data, reporting and other funder needs.
Communication, promotion and interdepartmental work
- In concert with AIDS United’s communications department, ensure that general portfolio information, current and upcoming events and necessary updates are posted online and promoted.
- Generate reports, documents and other materials as requested by staff, trustees and funders.
- Maintain consistent communication with AIDS United finance and operations teams regarding budget, initiative spending and documentation.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience and education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with a minimum of two years experience with managing programs that reach and engage people living with and vulnerable to HIV, with a specific focus on knowledge of other social justice movements that intersect with HIV and Black and Indigenous people and other communities of color.
- Experience with collaboration, communication, engagement and networking with organizations, leaders, peers and communities who are transgender and gender-nonconforming and Black, Indigenous, and other people of color.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
Core competencies
- Familiarity with webinar and/or multi-media platforms that support learning communities.
- Knowledge of grants management, including meeting deliverables and monitoring work plan objectives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working in the fields of HIV and social justice.
- Commitment to AIDS United’s mission of ending the HIV epidemic in the United States and to working within a social justice framework.
